This year we have had many excellent applicants (>50), yet we have at most 15 TA positions available for the new students. I need to lobby hard to our departmental chair and associate chairs for my applicants. For this reason, I would like to know if you are still interested in coming to my lab (I know that xxx is also interested in you and had called you before). Our chairs will likely give us very limited number of TA positions; therefore I have to choose one or two students from my already accepted students. I need your honest answer, because I do not want to lose you. However, if you have an offer from another university and you think you are likely to go to that university, it is better to turn me down now so that I can lobby for another Chinese student. If you want to work for xxx, you can tell me also (I will support you as well). If you can not decide at this time, please tell me so. I can wait for a short while.
