TOPIC: ARGUMENT2 - The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.
"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."

The argument for that Deerhaven Acres should adopt their own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting seems logical at first glance. However, the reason why average property values have tripled in Brookville may not be that the Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions. Besides, the restrictions may not be adapted to Deerhaven Acres.
First, the assumption is that average property values have tripled in Brookville because it adopted a set of restrictions. Unfortunately, this may not be the case. The reason why average property values have tripled in Brookville may be others rather than they adopted a set of restrictions. It is possible that average property values have tripled because of inflation. Or perhaps the property values of the houses in the same part that did not adopt the restrictions increased more than those adopted these restrictions. In that case, adopting the restrictions may not be the reason why average property values have tripled and even humble the increase of the property values.
Even if the restrictions indeed contribute to the increase of average property values in Brookville, it is still wrong to conclude that Deerhaven Acres should also adopt restrictions on landscaping and housepainting. First, Brookville adopted the restrictions seven years ago, it may be useless now. In addition, it is entirely possible that Deerhaven Acres is different from Brookville. They may be different in culture, climate, and business. For instance, the Brookville may want the house to have a unique style, while the Deerhaven Acres may like the character and difference between the houses.
In conclusion, the argument, while it seems logical at first, has several flaws as discussed above. Before the conclusion about whether Deerhaven Acres should adopt their own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting, the author should providence more evidence and rule out other possible alternatives.
