Ferdinand Foch(福煦), the commander of the army of the Allies in World War1,was written in history textbook, but thousands of soldiers rare got their share of credit. In my opinion, of cause, famous individuals who shaped the history should be etched in history, however, group who created the history must be emphasized more.
Admittedly, famous few, with excellent intelligence, particular charisma and iron will, played a crucial role in the progress of history. Their achievements promoted the human being's progress. For instance, German physicist Wilgelm Roentgen(伦琴) found X rays, which save lots of patients' live. Similarly, Darwin's theory of evolution had a far-going influence on human beings. Undoubtedly, these giants whose achievements changed the fate of human beings should be commemorated forever.
Famous few did accelerate the development of history, but the decisive power of history is from the masses. It is often the masses other than famous few that created an epoch. For example, Lincon is considered as the greatest president in American history, because he abolished the slavery. However, Lincon is not the earliest forerunner. Before the civil war of America, many normal men and women had devoted themselves to rescuing black slaves from South America, many of whom lost their lives. Their effort evoked more and more persons to join in them. These men and women , as great as Lincon, should be written in the history of human beings.
Moreover, without the sacrifice of the masses, it is impossible for famous few to achieve glorious feat. Genius with foresight disseminated their thought to the masses, united them and organized them, but can not substitute them. Empirical evidence indicates that democracy, freedom, civilization often is at cost of the masses’ sacrifice. Franklin Roosevelt whose strong will gave American confidence made a great contribution to beat Nazi. However, it is millions of soldiers, their family and ether citizens that played a decisive role in the arduous cause. They should be written in history as replete as Franklin Rooseselt, if not more.
In sum, although famous few played a crucial role, but groups of people should not be forgotten. It was just their sacrifice that created new eras, besides, without their sacrifice, no genius can achieve glorious victories. when we enjoy freedom, democracy, civilization, we must thank to those lives, blood lost at every step of the progress of human beings.
