Multiculturalism is "the single greatest threat to civiliation",
according to a senior staffer at the federal Government's Vocational
and Further Education office.
In an article to appear in Monash University's student paper <Lot's
Wife> next month, electorate officer Con Helas attacks
multiculturalism, claiming society was threatened by the values of
migrants.
The Monash Liberal Club president supported the "interaction" of other
cultures and the introduction of their "soft culture" - including
food, music and language - but he said all cultures should not be
considered equal in Australia.
His superior - VFE Minister Andrew Robb - was parliamentary secretary
to the Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Minister last year.
"The practice of multiculturalism would have to be the single greatest
threat to civilisation," Helas writes.
"It is not racist to believe and to state that the Anglo-Australian
culture should hold primacy in our laws, and in civil society.
"The success of this country rests on the foundation of our
inheritance from our English founders.
"Our ruin will be the passive acceptance of ideas and ways that chip
away at that inheritance."
Opposition Multicultural Affairs spokesman Laurie Ferguson said
Helas's views were "a blight on the Liberal Party" and should concern
all Australians.
Helas and Robb did not return mX's calls.
