Many students have to live with roommates while going to school or university. What are some of the important qualities of a good roommate? Use specific reasons and examples to explain why these qualities are important.


It is very common to share a room with roommates in the school or university, especially in the developing countries. Therefore, we can not live in harmony unless he has good qualities. Definitely speaking, I believe being quiet, honesty and helping each other are the most significant qualities. I will discuss the details in the following passages.

Above all, I do think being quiet is a basic quality for a roommate. Because both of us can have a complete rest after a whole day's study. What is more, for example, the quality becomes even more significant when we face the final exams. No one can study well without a quiet environment. And only in this way can we ensure that both of us can get satisfactory scores in the final exams.

Another vital quality is that my roommate should be honest and we can trust each other. Most of students who share a same room will become good friends. Therefore, honesty is important for not only the friends, but also for the roommates. To illustrate this, there is a good example that is very persuasive. We often find something lost in the dorm because of our carelessness. However, we are supposed to trust our roommates and there is no need to doubt him. All we need to do that is being patient until the lost thing is found.

Furthermore, I need my roommate to give me a hand when I am in trouble, which is also a critical quality. We have to face large number of difficulties during the campus life. Moreover, the roommate is the best candidate to help us. As to this point, the case of being ill serves as a good example to demonstrate. It is very common that we often catch cold in winter; however, we can recover soon with the help of the roommate. Because he can inform me to take medicine on time, or he can bring the meals to the dorm instead of my going in person.

As far as I am concerned, a good roommate is like a cup of green tea, when you feel thirsty, you will think of him. Hence the above-mentioned qualities: being quiet, honesty and helping each other are very important. I am sure that we can have peaceful a dorm and live in harmony as long as he have the three qualities.
