The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before,but with different eyes.

it is true that academic disiplines are most effective in changing our ways to view the world. Just take a look at how differently people regard the very issue. An artist may feel especiall content to see a large tree because she favors the light and shadow of the leaves, while an botanist only sets her eyes on the bark and branches of the tree.

second, academic disciplines do much in clearing out our vague concepts of the world. For instance, a music teacher may feel much confused toward why the Asian Financial Crises would take place in the seemingly rather prospective areas and why people rush to buy products that are most expensive. But to an economis who have mastered economic discplines will find those phenomenon all too easy to explain.

However, it is not wise to emphasize on disciplines too much. After all, disciplines are studies contributed by our pioneers, which is to say, they are thier way to view the world. We should always be aware that we have the right to develop our own visual angles. If not so, we are not likely to make progress.
