97The following appeared in a memo from the manager of television station KICK.
"A nationwide survey reveals that a sizeable majority of men would like to see additional sports programs on television. After television station WACK increased its sports broadcasts, its share of the television audience in its viewing area almost doubled. To gain a larger audience share in our area, and thus increase company profits, KICK should also revise its broadcast schedule to include more sports coverage."

1.       The situation the nationwide survey revealed may be not identical with that of our area. Even if the survey is convincing, it is unreliable to gain its larger audience share by only considering the taste of men. Thus, K will probably lose other kinds of audience, such as women, children, old people and etc.
2.       W’s measures shouldn’t be applied to K freely, just because they may have different kind of audience, different power of influence.
3.       Gaining a larger audience share doesn’t mean company profits will increase. It is partly determined by the cost of additional sports programs.
4.       To make this argument more convincing, the arguer should perform a more detailed survey in our area.
