经过几个小时的艰辛劳动,45s题的文本终于和大家见面了:)
只是现在还没有办法上传压缩文件,大家多担待啊。

TASK 1

1.       Person
The reasons you choose this person:
                -tolerant of others
                -good values
                -educated
In my family, my mother has influenced me greatly because she has so many good qualities. She is very well educated and keeps an open mind. Her thinking is very modern. She is able to understand people from different generations. In addition, she is a good listener. This makes her tolerant of other people’s opinions. Her personal values set a good example for me to follow in my own life. The way she treats people and thinks makes me want to become the best person I can be. This is why I think my mother has influenced me the most in my life.

2.       Culture
The rudest behavior: ignoring people
The reason you chose the behavior
               -hurts people’s feelings
               -anti-social behavior
               -makes others uncomfortable
The rudest thing a person can do in our culture is to ignore someone. It cut off all communication. Ignoring someone shows selfishness and a lack of respect to others. If I am trying to catch someone’s attention in a meeting to discuss something or in a store fro assistance, it can be very embarrassing to be ignored. It can hurt people’s feelings and make people lose self-confidence. Furthermore, it makes anyone witnessing this rude behavior uncomfortable. Overall, the rudest thing you can do is to ignore some one as it hurts everyone involved.
3.       Event
The event: my graduation
The reason you chose the event
          -special ceremony
          -recognized for my hard work
-full of all my friends and family
My high school graduation is the most memorable event in my life because it was such a special day. During our graduation we were each called up one at a time to the stage. We each received our diploma and everyone applauded our hard work. I even received an award for being the best math student. There was a get-together afterwards which was attended by all my friends and family. It was a memorable event because on this day I ended one part of my life and embarked on the beginning of my future.
4.       Pet
The animal: giraffe
The reasons you chose the animal:
           -majestic animal
           -long tongue and powerful lips
           -awkward and goofy
If I could have a pet, I would have a giraffe. It is the most majestic animal in the world. It is tall and sleek. It bends down gracefully to pick leaves from trees using its long tongue and powerful lips. Its fur coat is the most beautiful found in the desert – a yellow background with large brown circles placed here and there. Despite its grace horns on its head and a somewhat goofy looking smile. To me the giraffe is a paradoxical animal – clumsily and awkwardly beautiful and graceful.
5.       TV and film
The program: Seinfeld
The reasons you chose the program:
       -funny
       -mix of characters
       -everyday situations
I like to watch the TV program Seinfeld because it is a funny show about ordinary people like my friends and me. None of the characters on the show are perfect people. Each one takes a turn getting into some trouble on screen. Sometimes they help each other out while other times they just make each feel silly for their mistakes. My friends and I try to see every episode. In fact, we often talk about the most recent episode when we see each other. I can really identify with the show because the characters are so similar to my friends.
6.  Music
The type of music: rock music
The reasons you chose the music
-          like beat
-          sound of a generation
-          music for a better life and a better society
I like all kinds of music but if I had to choose one type of music it would be rock. It was the lively beat of change for a whole society. Moreover, one of the leaders of this change was Jimi Hendrix. When I listen to his masterful electric guitar style, I can hear the energy of his generation. The music has a soul and an appealing sound. It has inspired many people to work for a better life for themselves and for a better society around them. Rock music has soul and has stood the rest of time.

7.       Book
The book: the Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
The reasons you chose the book:
-          identified with the character
-          challenges of my age group
-          interesting point of view
When I read The Catcher in the Rye, By J. D. Salinger, it was already an old book, but I liked it because I identified with Holden Caulfield, the young man who was the main character. He was not always correct in his judgments about the way life was, although he had strong opinions. I liked to read about how he felt and what he understood. His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies, capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation. In many ways, we still have the same challenges in life since the times of The Catcher in the Rye.

8.       Subject
The subject: math
The reasons you chose the subject
-          difficult to understand
-          not relevant to my life
-          no time to catch up
My worst subject in school was mathematics. I didn’t understand it as well as other subjects. Furthermore, it was hard for me to see the relevant of math in my life. I just never saw the point of studying so many formulas and equations that seem so abstract. I think I could have been good in math if my teacher were to have taken more time to explain it to me. Maybe I needed a different approach to math. In as much as I was weaker in math, I was stronger in art, literature and even biology so there was balance in my subjects and in my marks.

9.       sport
The sport: golf
The reasons you chose the sports:
-          good exercise
-          have fun and relax
-          play to win
I recently took up golf because I though it might be a sport that would be fun and useful. So far, I have discovered that golf requires a lot of time and a lot of walking. This, however, adds to the fun and relaxation of a round of golf. Golf has also taught me to concentrate and to take many factors into account, such as wind and slope. Although I like to play to win, even if I don’t beat my partner, I know I have played well if I have improved my own score. I think by choosing golf I have found a good way to do business in the future as well as have fun learning it now.

10.   gift
The gift: music box
The reasons you chose the gift:
-          sentimental
-          thoughtful
-          useful
My favorite gift is a music box. It has a great amount of sentimental value. It was given to me as a gift for my first dance recital with my ballet class. I was only seven years old and my family planned a dinner celebration. At the table, my father presented me with a little jewelry box. When I opened it, music played and a small plastic pink ballerina burned in a mirror. My family knew how much I loved ballet and understood my dream of becoming a ballet dancer. I didn’t become a ballet dance, but I still use my favorite gift because it reminds me of my parent’s thoughtfulness.

11.   Motto
The motto: honesty is the best policy
The reasons you chose the motto:
-          personal philosophy
-          easier to live with
-          overall moral good
My motto is “honesty is the best policy” because life is easier when we tell the truth. I have felt this way ever since I read the story of Pinocchio, the little marionette whose wooden nose grew whenever he told a lie. It just seems better to deal with the truth. As a result, there are no surprises or stories that don’t match up. It also helps people treat themselves with more self-respect and in turn, others will treat them in a more dignified manner. Lying to others is lying to oneself. If everyone were honest, we would all fell better in our personal lives and in dealing at work.

12.   Criticism
The criticism: how I looked
The reasons you chose this:
-          lazy, careless in my attitude
-          attracting undesirable people
-          but appearance did not mean everything
When I was in school, I was criticized because of how I looked. I had long hair of many colors – often a mix of black, blond and blue. My clothes were big and baggy; nobody saw my shoes because my pants were so long and dragged on the ground. I felt comfortable in this way. It was a way of expressing my feelings about the world around me. However, my family didn’t agree with this. They said it made me look lazy and careless in my attitude. People thought I didn’t care about my parents either. They were worried about me and about my appearance attracting undesirable people. I know they were just trying to show their love to me. I was the top student in my class, so to me, looks and appearance didn’t mean everything.

13.   Embarrassing Moment
The moment: sending an email by mistake
The reasons you chose this moment
-          careless moment
-          revealed personal information
-          lost people’s trust
My most embarrassing moment came when I recently sent an email careless to the wrong person. A friend revealed personal information to me in an email and asked for my advice. At first, I concentrated on answering him, but then the phone rang and I mistakenly sent it off on another friend in my address book. I sent off a friend’s confession about how he had cheated on his girlfriend, not once, but twice in the same day. The friend who received it happed to be a good friend of the guy’s girlfriend. In this one embarrassing moment I careless revealed private details and might have lost the trust of both friends. I also revealed my stupidity and lack of care – personally very embarrassing.

14.   Game
The game: skipping
The reasons you chose the game:
-          nostalgia
-          group singing
-          regular recess activity
In the schoolyard I liked skipping as a child because everyone could be included in the same game at the same time. The older girls at school taught us all the songs. Every time we had recess we would all run out to the yard and take turns turning the rope and all the other girls would sing and jump in and out together. We were together singing songs and exercising; it was a lot of fun. As we grew up and got to be the older girls, we would teach the songs we learned. Skipping was a schoolyard activity that we could all enjoy together and pass on to younger students.

15. Color
The reasons you chose the color:
-          happy color
-          looks good on me
-          goes with all my outfits
In my closet I have clothes of many colors but my favorite color is pink. Pink strikes me as such a happy color. For this reason I feel that I always look good and I feel good when I wear pink. When it is rainy in the winter, I like to wear my pink silk and wool sweater. It makes me feel so warm inside. Pink appears in separate pieces of clothing as well as in some of my accessories such as scarves, hairpins and belts. Gradually I have added pieces to my collection of clothes but they all go together with each other and with the color pink. My wardrobe is coordinated around a color that both flatters me and makes me feel good.

16.   Ingredient
The ingredient: ground meat
The reasons you chose the ingredient
-          cheap and easy to buy
-          suit a lot of recipes
-          stores well
The most useful ingredient in my fridge for cooking at home is ground meat because it is inexpensive and suitable for many recipes. It used to be called hamburger meat and was usually beef. Now, it is sold all over as ground turkey, veal, chicken or pork as well as beef. I use it to make my favorite, meatball. Sometimes I use ground meat to make a meat sauce for pasta and then there are meals when I stir fry it into vegetables and put it all on a bed of rice. I even use it in soups. It can be fried, grilled and baked in hundreds of different recipes. Meatloaf is just one of the dishes I can prepare ahead of time with ground meat to have ready for company or when I am busy. Ground meat is the most useful ingredient because it doesn’t cost a lot and cook easily for freshly made meals or to store in freezer for later use.

17.   Hobby

The hobby: model airplane building
The reasons you chose the hobby:
-          like to work alone and figure out the parts
-          learn about engineering
-          touch adventure and history
I like building model airplanes as my hobby because it gives me a change of pace from my busy schedule. I have been building model airplanes since I was 10, when my father gave me one as my birthday present. It takes time and concentration to match and glue the small parts and although some people don’t have the patience to do this, I find it very relaxing. Each model teaches me about design and engineering. Sometimes I go to a club where there are others who share my interests. This hobby lets me touch a bit of history and I can imagine the adventure of the original flyers.

Choice B: car

-          Having a car would also make a different in our choice of leisure activities.
Closing statement (optional)
-          A car would be the smartest choice because it is so useful and it would last much longer than a holiday.

My choice of prize would be the car over the vacation because it is more practical. Although I’m in need of a break now the car’s benefits far outweigh those of the holiday. A car would make my life easier immediately. It would lessen the stress of arriving at appointments on time and I could run errands with less trouble. Moreover, I could manage the single most difficult task of the week with greater efficiency and less strain grocery shopping. Normally, shopping and transporting the family’s weekly grocery needs a great deal of organization. It often means taking a taxi. Having a car would mean more choice in the locations and times we shop. It would also make a difference in our choice of leisure activities. We could drive to far away parks and spend less time to get to movies, school events or family visit. A car would be the smartest choice because it is so useful and it would last much longer that a holiday.

Cash or gift

Choice A: cash
-          always useful
-          easy to give
-          no risk (size, color, taste)
Choice B: gift
-          surprise
-          personal
-          memorable
  Topic sentence:
-          Normally I enjoy receiving a gift, but as a student I much prefer getting cash.
  Supporting sentence:
-          Cash is the most useful present my parents can give me.
-          My parents don’t have to spend time shopping or wrapping the gift.
-          There is no risk of the gift being the wrong size or color.
  Closing statement (optional)
-          I prefer receiving a cash gift that can be sued to make a memorable purchase at just the right time with far fewer risks.
Normally I enjoy receiving a gift, but as a student I much prefer getting cash. It is true that opening a gift and being surprised is really fun. However, cash is now the most useful present my parent can give me. It saves them time as well. They don’t have to spend time shopping or wrapping the gift. There are no trips to the post office and nothing gets damaged during shipping. Furthermore, there is no risk of the gift being the wrong size or color. Most of all, I appreciate that my parents trust me to spend the money wisely on my own taste on things I feel I need. In the end, I prefer receiving a cash gift that can be sued to make a memorable purchase at just the right time with far fewer risks.

Alone or Group
Choice A: alone
-          set own schedule
-          focus on priorities
-          concentration
Choice B: group
-          share work
-          motivation
-          company
Topic sentence
-          I have learned that I definitely prefer to study alone because I am more successful this way.
Supporting sentence
-          I like to set a schedule according to what I have to study.
-          I focus my weaker areas; they might not be the ones a study group would choose.
-          Organizing my study time allows me to control the pace an atmosphere.
Closing sentence (optional)
-          Without other people around me I can concentrate fully on the work and take in the material more efficiently.
I have leaned that I definitely prefer to study alone because I am more successful this way. The method I like to follow is to set a schedule for myself according to what I must study. If I divide it into units I can manage the workload better. Mostly, I focus on my weaker areas. There are my priority areas but they might not be the ones a study group chooses to work on. While a study group sounds like it might be fun and a way to share the work, my study time is more effective when I plan it alone. Organizing my own study time allows me to control the pace as well as the atmosphere of my study sessions. Without other people around me I can concentrate fully on the work and take in the material more efficiently.

In person or By letter
Choice A: in person

-          By taking my time and writing a proper letter of complaint I can express my anger and let the store do something to make me feel better about my purchase.

Despite the temptation to complain immediately, I prefer to keep a cool head and wait to write a letter. Complaining immediately does give some emotional satisfaction and the listener can see the very real upset I am feeling, but it might miss the point of complaining. A letter lets me document the incident and is less likely to end in hard feelings and yelling at someone. After all, the purpose of the letter is to file a formal record or complaint that must be dealt with. Perhaps the service person needs more training. furthermore, I need to find the person in authority that can act on my complaint. The manager might choose to apologize or to offer me a discount to make good on the store’s policy of good service to customers. By taking my time and writing a proper letter of complaint I can express my anger and let the store do something to make me feel better about my purchase.

There are fewer misunderstandings and less stress. Moreover, it helps me fit faster so that my energy is on my work and studies. There is room to spread out and I don’t have to worry about my bag being in someone’s way. I find driving more relaxing and it allows me to set the pace of my trip. Occasionally, there are stops along the way I want to make. I would be free, for example, to drop into stores that catch my interest. Generally, when I drive, I can leave any arrive on my own schedule. I prefer the freedom from restrictions and so I would drive my car if possible to visit my friends.

1.       问题 孩子们到了能干家务的时候,就应该在家里帮忙做些家务。赞成还是反对。
Agree:
-          use new skills
-          teach responsibility
-          develop good habits
   Disagree:
-          let children be without pressure
-          avoid failure at jobs
-          focus on studies
Topic sentence
-          I agree with the statement and believe that children should be encouraged to help maintain the family home. First of all, this is how they learn new practical skills and they can practice them immediately while carrying out their chores. By helping in the home children can contribute to the family. Over time this activity builds pride and self- confidence. Secondly, having work that others are counting on teaches a child responsibility. Throughout the process, a child is building good lifelong habits like cleaning their room. Furthermore, they learn to manage their time. Doing chores teaches children skills and personal satisfaction, which is why I think they should be asked to do them as soon as they are able.

-          We perceive people more beautiful as we come to know them better.
Closing sentence (optional)
-          The influence of cultural values and personal familiarity is what creates beauty in the eye of the beholder.
I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder because individuals see the world in their own personal way. Beauty, therefore, reflects the tastes and opinions of any individual. This personal view holds true whether beauty is being viewed in a person or an object of art. It is likely that a person’s idea of beauty is rooted in his or her own preferences mixed with his or her own culture. For example, a person might have learned to value external qualities like pale skin or delicate features as well as inner qualities like patience and humor. Another culture might have totally different standards of what is beautiful inside and outside. Nevertheless, I think that we perceive people more beautiful as we come to know them better. Influence of cultural values and personal familiarity is what creates beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Closing sentence (optional)
-          Most of all, we can measure a person’s success by the healthy relationships they form with family and friends and by their satisfaction in the work that supports their daily needs.
I disagree with the statement that a person’s success in life can only be measured by money. Although as a society we often judge people by their professions and how much money they earn, it does not cover the whole story of success. For example, someone who works hard to open a business is more successful than one who simply inherits it from a successful parent. Furthermore, fulfilling a dream of starting a business, singing in a choir or traveling to place one has always hope to see can be called success. Most of all, we can measure a person’s success by the healthy relationships people form with family and friends and by their satisfaction in the work that supports their daily needs.

   Disagree:
-          first impressions

-          Usually, a quick decision is based on past experience so it can be reliable.
-          Quick decisions are critical in situations with little reaction time.
Closing sentence (optional)
-          Overall, I maintain that quick decision can be both necessary and right.
Some people believe that decisions made quickly are often wrong, but I disagree with this statement because I have seen situations where they turn out to be very right. For example, I trust my first impressions when I meet people. A few of my very good friends are people that I chose to like immediately upon meeting them. Usually, a quick decision is based on past experience so it can be reliable. Fast thinking helps doctors save lives in the emergency wards and stockbrokers make good deal on the trading floor. Quick decisions are critical in situations with little reaction time such as when we must suddenly make a decision in traffic. Overall, I maintain that quick decision can be both necessary and right.

Entertainers and athletes rely on their talents that not everyone has and so I agree with that they deserve their high salaries. Not only are they talented, but also they have often spent most of their lives preparing for their roles. For example, athletes train their sport skills and keep fit. Entertainers must constantly train their voices, acting technique or musical talent. Their dedication also helps many other people around them make money. Their name sells ticket in places they perform, products they sell and endorse. After all, they risk injuries such as loss of voice of damage to their bodies that shorten careers. Since their talent contributes to economic success of so many businesses, I do not believe their high salaries are out of line.

-          In conclusion, zoos protect animals and provide an opportunity to educate and entertain the public.
I disagree with the notion of zoos not serving a useful purpose. In fact, they serve very important functions in educating people about animals they might never see otherwise. As most people live in cities, this is the only way to see and learn about animals. Some animals, such as pandas and certain monkeys, are endangered species. In the zoo trained zookeepers take care of them. While they live safely and breed, scientist can study them and find solutions to problem in the animals’ natural environment. Additionally, zoos are fun for families to visit together. In conclusion, zoos protect animals and provide an opportunity to educate and entertain the public.

-          Different perspective

-          Most young people are naturally curious and are not already tired of what they have seen.
-          Fresh eyes help them discover new ways of seeing old ideas or of inventing entirely new ones.
-          Young people observe and interpret the world they inherited from older people and are not afraid of change.
Closing sentence (optional)
-          For these reasons, I feel that young people have much to teach older people.
I disagree that young people have nothing to teach those who are older because young people possess learning particular to youth. Firstly, most young people are naturally curious and are not already tired of what they have seen. Secondly, these fresh eyes help them discover new ways of seeing old ideas or of inventing entirely new ones. As a result of this perspective, young people have been credited with many scientific and technological discoveries. In fact, it is the older generation who is following the lead of many young people, especially in technology. Young people observe and interpret the world they inherited from older people and are not afraid of change. For these reasons I feel that young people have much to teach older people.

   Disagree:
-          train hard
-          intelligent
-          strategic thinkers

-          Women can bring their keen intelligence to help meet today’s military needs.
-          Women process information differently and form different strategies from men.
Closing sentence (optional)
-          Women trained hard to be both mentally and physically prepared for duty.
Given the technological advances in the military, I have to disagree with those who think women are not good candidates for service. Traditional strength is not needed for newer lightweight equipment and non-battle situations. Women can bring their keen intelligence to help meet today’s military needs. Some of this new work calls for sophisticated computer skills. Women are known to multi task and interpret well. Also known are women’s fine motor skill and reflexes that suit high tech positions. Meanwhile military strategists welcome the different approaches to strategic thinking that women bring as a result of the way they process information. In conclusion, women train hard to be both mentally and physically prepared for duty. There are just some of the reasons women are good candidates for military service.

1.       问题 姨妈工作的公司有一个你想要的暑期工作,你是想通过自己的力量申请这个工作,还是想摆脱姨妈说句话。说明中须包括你所做选择的利弊。
Choice A: apply
-          merit
-          no embarrassment
-          less pressure
Choice B: influence
-          familiar contact
-          advance over others
-          acceptance
Preference: - using aunt’s influence
Topic sentence
- I would like definitely enlist the help of my aunt in finding a job in the company where she works.
Supporting sentences
-          The job market is tight these days and I think that an applicant should use every advantage.
-          I might influence the hiring manager if my aunt can put in a good word for me.
Opposing View:
-          It is risky to count to my aunt’s reputation or her ability to influence decisions.
-          It might make it awkward for my boss to correct me.
Closing statement:
-          However, given the competition for jobs, I would ask my aunt to help me land a job at her company.
I would definitely enlist the help of my aunt in finding a job in the company where she works. The job market is tight these days and I think that an applicant should use every advantage. It might influence the hiring manager if my aunt can put in a good word for me. The manager might fell more confident in hiring someone who is already familiar with the company and therefore I might be more likely to be accepted by the staff. On the other hand, it is risky to count on my aunt’s reputation or her ability to influence decisions. The disadvantage of having an inside contact is that I will always wonder if I could have been hired on my own merit. And, while on the job it might make it awkward for my boss to correct me if it might make both my aunt and me feel bad. However, given the competition for jobs, I would ask my aunt to help me land a job at her company.

2.       问题 人们可以通过两种方式到其他国家去“旅游”。一种是真的实地去旅游,另一种则是通过读书或文章来进行假象旅游。你喜欢哪一种?说明中必须包括你所做选者的利弊。
Choice A: Actual travel
-          exciting to plan
-          authentic experience (music, food, events)
-          meet new friends
Choice B: Virtual travel
-          cheaper
-          safer
-          unlimited resource
Preference: - actual travel
Topic sentence
- I prefer real travel to a country over virtual travel from the comfort of my home.
Supporting sentences
-          Real life travel holds great excitement at al stages.
-          A real life traveler experiences the excitement of buying food and getting directions, sometimes in a foreign language.
-          I can buy souvenirs and will have memories of music, food and new friends.
Opposing view
-          While reading about a country, I will never run out of money or have to worry about terrorism.
-          There are maps, dictionaries and videos to refer to.
Closing statement
-          For me, taking a trip somewhere always beats virtual travel.
I prefer real travel to a country over virtual travel from the comfort of my home. I do, however, see advantages for both modes of “travel”. Real life travel hold a great excitement at all stages. Planning on paper is fun, but nothing can take the place of really landing in a foreign airport and feeling the blast of air from a new climate on your face. Of course, the traveler reading their way into a country will never run of money partway through a trip. Nor do they have to worry about robbery or terrorism. While a real life traveler experience the excitement of buying food and getting directions, sometimes in a foreign language, the home-based traveler has all the maps, dictionaries and videos to refer to. Naturally, the home traveler can stop anytime. However, the virtual traveler can’t bring home the souvenirs of a trip such as music, food and new friends he discovers on a trip. For me, taking a trip somewhere always beats virtual travel.

Choice A: sell
-          recover costs
-          money to buy new things
-          motivated to get rid of more
Choice B: donate
-          feels good
-          helps others
-          clean out more
Preference: sell extra things around my house
Topic sentence
- I prefer to sell rather than donate the extra things around my house.
Supporting sentences
-          I like to recoup some of my money.
-          It puts money in my pocket to buy the new things I need.
Opposing view
-          It does feel good to be able to give things to people less fortunate.
-          Out cast-offs help create jobs in second hand stores and in charity organizations.
Closing statement
-          Clearing space and recovering some of my original money for future purchases is why I prefer to try to sell my used items.
I prefer to sell rather than donate the extra things around my house. We clear the space in our home regularly so that we can live and work more comfortably. I like to recoup some of my money because I take care of my things and there is no reason for me not to sell them at a reasonable price. Each of the choices has the advantage of motivating us to throw out more than we would if we were simply throwing things in the garbage. It does fell good to be able to give things to people less fortunate. There are even places not that sell what we donate. Our cast-offs help create jobs in second-hand stores and in charity organizations. The sale of these goods also adds to the economy. At he same time, It puts money in my pocket to buy the new things I need. Clearing space and recovering some of my original money for future purchases is why I prefer to try to sell my used items.

4.       问题 电影或电视应该接受审查吗?还是应该让我们可以自由地选择想看的节目?你的意见是什么?说明中必须包括你所做选择的利弊。

Choice A: censor
-          protect minors
-          filter extreme ideas
-          encourage higher quality
Choice B: free choice
-          freedom of expression
-          discuss common values
-          responsibility of choice
Preference:  - free choice
Topic sentence
- I think that censorship is not a good idea.
Supporting sentences
-          I prefer to allow people to choose what they wish to view.
-          We would hand over decisions about what is safe to be seen to anonymous people whose values are not known to us.
-          Our personal freedom of expression would be limited.
Opposing view
-          Censorship ensures that scenes of violence and unnecessary nudity and vulgarity do not offend anyone.
-          Children would be protected from seeing and hearing material that might upset them or cause them to behave in an extreme way.
-          Fear of censorship might even encourage a higher quality of script for broadcast.
Closing statement
-          Ultimately, if we allow freedom of expression, we can exercise choice and self-censorship instead of deciding what is good for everyone across the board.
I think that censorship is not a good idea. I prefer to allow people to choose what they wish to view. Censorship measures that scenes of violence and unnecessary nudity and vulgarity do not offend anyone. In fact, children would be protected from seeing and hearing material that might upset them and cause them to behave in an extreme way. It is possible that fear of censorship might even encourage a higher quality of script for broadcast. The price, however, is that we would hand over decisions about what is safe to be seen to anonymous people whose values are not known to us. Our personal freedom of expression would be limited, as would our own responsibility to decide for ourselves what is right. Often, parents set such an example when monitor their children’s viewing choice but then take time to discuss them together. Ultimately, if we allow freedom of expression we can exercise choice and self-censorship instead of deciding what is good for everyone across the board.

5. 问题 听说一个大型零售店要进驻你生活的社区,开一家大规模的店铺,你认为应该进驻,还是不应该进驻。论证一下这个事件在社区内的利弊。
Choice A: move in
-          more product choice
-          more jobs
-          better price
Choice B: stay out
-          more traffic
-          low paying jobs
-          ruin smaller business
Preference: - stay out
Topic sentence
- There is much controversy that surrounds the move of a big store into a community.
Supporting sentences
-          The traffic will cause noise and pollution in the neighborhood.
-          Staff will realize that the company controls their working conditions and wages.
-          Often when a big store comes to town it puts other smaller companies out of business.
Opposing view
-          There are the new jobs that come with the opening of a store.
-          Shelves will be lined will many more products.
Closing statement
-          The variety and low cost products of a big new store cut out other competitors, turning what was a big short-term advantage for a community into a serious disadvantage.
There is much controversy that surrounds the move of a big store into a community. The advantages are very dear but they come with a cost. Firstly, there are the new jobs that come with the opening of a store. At the beginning there are the construction jobs and then the store staff itself must be hired. The shelves will be lined with many more products giving local shoppers more choices and possibly better prices. For a while the new store will be a great place to place to browse or go shopping with friends. All that traffic, however, will cause noise and pollution in the neighborhood. Eventually, the newly hired stall will realize that the company controls their working conditions and wages. If they are unhappy with the new store management, they may not have other choices. Often when a big store comes to town, it put other small companies out of business. The variety and low cost precuts of a big new store cut out other competitors, turning what was a big short-term advantage for a community into a serious disadvantage.

6.       问题 有的人认为可以在自己所在的国家学习新语言,但是有的人则认为应该到使用那种语言的国家去学习。你喜欢哪一种方法?论证说明两种方法的利与弊。

Choice A: own country
-          cheaper
-          more flexibility
-          local teacher
Choice B: foreign country
-          money well spent
-          immersion
-          more motivation
Preference: - foreign country
Topic sentence
- I personally prefer to learn a new language in the country where it is spoken.
Supporting sentences
-          It is money well spent
-          You are immersed in the language everyday.
-          After a while, it becomes much more fun and less foreign and you forget your fear.
Opposing view
-          It is cheaper to study at home.
-          You can schedule classes more conveniently at home.
-          You are likely to be taught by a teacher who is more patient with your language challenges.
Closing statement
- Once forced to try harder, your language skills improve faster and in the bargain of learning a new language, you also pick up an understanding of its culture.
I personally prefer to learn a new language in the country where it is spoken. At first glance it is cheaper to study at home. You don’t have to pay the trip, foreign school cost, housing, food or transportation. This is quite an expensive to consider. Additionally, you can schedule classes more conveniently at home. You are likely to be taught by a teacher who is more patient with your language challenges. The expense, however, is money well spent if you consider the advantage of acquiring a language in its natural environment. As a result of immersion you must struggle every day in the new language. After a while, it becomes much more fun and less foreign. You forget your fear, especially of speaking, in part because you have no choice. Once forced to try harder, your language skills improve faster and in the bargain of learning a new language, you also pick up an understanding of its culture.

7.       问题 你更关心国内新闻,还是更关心国际新闻。举例文明你的选择。

Choice A: domestic
-          local newsmakers and issues
-          common to family, coworkers
Choice B: international
-          aware of world leaders and ideas
-          be part of global marketplace
-          be aware of global trends
Preference: - global news
Topic sentence
- I prefer to pay more attention to international rather the domestic news.
Supporting sentences
-          To manage my life in my own country I need to know about the environment outside its borders.
-          World events determine what I pay for the gas in my car, the safety of the imported food I eat and my decision to travel to a foreign country on holiday.
Opposing view
-          My coworkers and I discuss general news at lunch.
Closing statement
-          Paying attention to global news helps me understand the bigger picture and how I fit into for both work and leisure.
I prefer to pay more attention to international rather than national news. Since I am an engineer at the local water company, I am already kept informed about news that affects me. I receive company bulletins and my coworker and I discuss general news at lunch. I feel I have to work harder to keep abreast of world news. There is a phrase I hear often, “think globally and act locally.” To manage my life in my own country I need to know about the environment outside its borders. Who are the influential leaders of the world and what are they doing? Their ideas about oil, energy or politics affect opportunities in my country. World events determine what I pay for the gas in my car, the safety of the imported food I eat and my decision to travel to a foreign country on holiday. It can even affect my job. On a lighter not, I like to keep track of fashion and music trends. Paying attention to global news helps me understand the bigger picture and how I fit into it for both work and leisure.

8.       问题 人们每天都在为饮食下决定。有的人喜欢美餐都在家里做,在家里吃,而有的人则在食堂或快餐店里吃饭。比较这两种选择。

Choice A: eating in
-          control costs
-          healthy ingredients
-          relaxed
Choice B: eating out
-          social atmosphere
-          saves time
-          discover new food and customs
Topic sentence
- Taking one’s meat at home as well as dining out both have their appeal.
Supporting A
-          Restaurant meals are generally far more expensive than those prepared at home.
-          At home you are able to control food cost and make healthy food choices with every trip to the market you make to buy groceries.
Supporting B
-          Dining out is a fun and social experience.
-          All the details are looked after.
Closing statement
- Restaurants are great places to meet people and try new foods together, but nothing stops you from entertaining those same people at home with the new recipes you discovered when dining out.

Taking one’s meals at home as well as dining out both have their appeal. Certainly cost is a big factor in deciding where to eat. Restaurant meals are generally far more expensive than those prepared at home. The price takes into account the overhead such as room cost, chefs, servers, placing settings and food costs. At home you are able to control food costs with every trip to the market you make to buy groceries. You can choose the healthiest ingredients to stock your kitchen with. On the other hand, dining locations are a matter of lifestyles. Home cooking is more relaxed but dining out is a fun and social experience. All the details are looked after. Restaurants are great places to meet people and try new foods together, but nothing stops you from entertaining those same people at home with the new recipes you discovered when dinning out.
