"Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."

The speaker claims that students should always cast doubt on what they learn, or they accept thing passively. Admittedly, skepticism is a valuable spirit in the field of scientific research, however, not all skepticism leads people to the right way towards the truth and furthermore, learning knowledge for students is more or less different from scientific research for scientists. So in my opinion, it is not necessary for students to doubt every thing they learn.

First, I admit that on the empirical observation, skepticism actually helps people eliminate the influence of so-called truth and authority and discover the truth. A most famous example is Galileo’s refuting of Aristoteles’s theory about the movement of objects. In 1590, after years of observation and experiments, Galileo standing on the Leaning Tower of Pisa, carried the famous experiment showing that two balls of different size and weight must land on ground at the same time, which ended the thousands of years of dominion of Aristoteles’s theory. Another famous example is Nicolaus Copernicus’s doubt of the earth-center theory. Moreover, doubt of the earth-center theory means casting doubt on religionary dominion which was very dangerous in that times. Famous scientist Descartes said that the real start-point of science is doubt. Skepticism does provide a strong impetus of the advancement of our world.

Second, however, doubt for doubt will result in excessive skepticism which doubts everything and then even despises the cognizing ability of human beings. The only way to convince such people is to show how and why the conclusion is drawn from. That is, when he learns two balls landed on the ground at the same time, teacher must stand on the Leaning Tower of Pisa and drop two balls of different size and weight. Luckily, this experiment is easy to carry. Whereas, when he learns the Newton’s third law, I am afraid that he will never believe the law for that the Newton’s third law is drawn from conclusion instead of experiment. For such a student, not mention how slowly he learns thing and how difficult for teacher to convince him, the knowledge he could learn is so limited that we couldn't imagine him achieve any achievement.

Third, even though skepticism plays a important role in advancement of human beings, there lies significant discrepancy between classroom and laboratory. So, skepticism probably does not work well in classroom for students. To support this assertion, there are two compelling arguments. On one hand, classroom is a place where teachers hand the fruits of intelligence of human beings to the next generations and most of the things taught in classroom have underwent years or hundreds of years ' test, such as the primary theories of physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, which means the reality of them are reliable. On the other hand, accepting everything without thinking or questioning perhaps means a inferior researcher, however, without skepticism does not equal to accept things passively. Doctor Li Kaifu, the vice president of Google global, was always a good student in school time and even because of his perfect preference, he shorter his school time. Learning actively means getting a clear idea of the process, not only concerning for the conclusion.

In sum, skepticism is a kind of spirit necessary for the human being as a whole, however, for students, who just step on the road towards the truth, it is more important to construct a stable foundation of basic knowledge. So, I think that work hard to know how it is... and why it is... is more critical than just spit out 'Really?' without any consideration.

Second, however, doubt for doubt will result in excessive skepticism which doubts everything and then even despises the cognizing ability我不知道这个表达是不是对,改为the ability of cognition of human beings. The only way to convince such people is to show how and why why 可以去除 the conclusion is drawn from. That is, when he learns two balls landed on the ground at the same time, teacher must stand on the Leaning Tower of Pisa and drop two balls of different size and weight. Luckily, this experiment is easy to carry. Whereas, when he learns the Newton’s third law, I am afraid that he will never believe the law for thatfor that? for 作为“因为”后加n, 改为as the Newton’s third law is drawn from conclusion结论? instead of experiment. For such a student, not tomention how slowly he learns thing and how difficult for teacher to convince him, the knowledge he could learn is so limited that we couldn't imagine him to achieve any achievement.learn这段用了好几个,可否变换一下?
Third, even though skepticism plays aan important role in advancement of human beings, there lies significant discrepancy between classroom and laboratory. So, skepticism probably does not work well in classroom for students. To support this assertion, there are two compelling arguments. On one hand, classroom is a place where teachers hand the fruits of intelligence of human beings to the next generations and most of the things taught in classroom have underwent years or hundreds of years ' test, such as the primary theories of physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, which means the reality of them are reliable因为存在的时间长所以就合理么. On the other hand, accepting everything without thinking or questioning perhaps means aan inferior researcher, however, without skepticism does not equal to accept things passively. Doctor Li Kaifu, the vice president of Google global, was always a good student in school time and even because of his perfect preference, he shortershorten his school time. 这个例子我觉得不是很恰当,与without skepticism 貌似不那么相关,是个好学生不意味着他without skepticism Learning actively means getting a clear idea of the process, not only concerning for the conclusion.
In sum, skepticism is a kind of spirit necessary for the human being as a whole, however, for students, who just step on the road towards the truth, it is more important to construct a stable foundation of basic knowledge. 这句话很好~~~So, I think that work hard to know how it is... and why it is... is more critical than just spit out 'Really?' without any consideration. 是不是该在work前+to.
