No 8-1 section a

19   are typical of the layers

20   unimaginatively 就是pedestrian(平淡,单调,无创意)。

23   就是第一段最后  blindness to the real nature of great writing, found the essay giving rise to personal memories and fictional developments, and allowed these to take over in a steadily developing novel.

26   Proust had drafted descriptions of his novel’s characters in their old age that would appear in the final book of Remembrance, where the permanence of art is set against the ravages of time.

No 8-1 section b

18   from a sovereign people to compatriots with newly arriving settlers
19   As their numbers became more substantial, their policy of acquiring land by subduing native populations began to dominate.
btought the indigenous Indians into Mexican life and government这是墨西哥的
culminating in a military conflict that led to victory for the US
22   researchers believed that they never got to any part of the brain other than the hypothalamus,
bind in places other than the hypothalamus, indicating that either the hormones or substances that cross-react with the antiserums are present.
23   定位到最后一段 a theory must be developed that explains their function in the brain.
a 错的原因可能是题目说 would force scientists , 而a那个已经是 can not 了, 不用would 了

No 8-2 section a

19   Composers like Scott Joplin and James Scott were in a sense collectors or musicologists, collecting dance and folk music
c 是 piano suites ,文章是 brief suites
20   However, there is no reason to assume that ragtime is inherently mechanical simply because commercial manufacturers applied a mechanical recording method to ragtime, the only way to record pianos at that date.

22   However, there is no reason to assume that ragtime is inherently mechanical simply b

No 8-2 section b

19   Yet this rush into practical applications is itself quite understandable

20   This underappreciation of the social sciences==the observation
overutilized== their overutilization.

B  discussing problems involved in providing an accurate picture of the Pleistocene epoch”是对的。
22   答案就在第一段but a period of oscillating climate with ice advances punctuated by times of interglacial climate

23   was based primarily on a series of deposits and events not directly related to glacial and interglacial periods, r

24   Yet this succession was forced willy-nilly onto the glaciated parts of Northern Europe,

26   Although the time involved is so short, about 0.04 percent of the total age of the Earth, the amount of attention devoted to the Pleistocene has been incredibly large,

27   the chill truth seems to be that we are already past the optimum climate of postglacial time” ,past the optimun climate of postglacial time

No 9-1 section a

18  Granted that the presence of these elements need not argue an authorial awareness of novelistic construction comparable to that of Henry James

19  19 rigidity in any interpretation of this or of any novel is always a danger。  rigidity == inflexible

No 9-1 section b

before 1763 was dictated by commercial interests and that a change to a more imperial policy, dominated by expansionist militarist objectives

24  24  all of whom were bent on extending centralized executive power over England’s possessions through the use of what Webb calls “garrison government.”
然后在找到the purpose of garrison government那个地方,明白了
而B说symbolic presence of the military

, these governors tried to prevent the gentry and merchants, allied in the colonial assemblies, from transforming colonial America into a capitalistic oligarchy.

27   27  :
William III persuade Parliament to create a professional standing army, and Parliaments price for doing so was to keep the army under tight legislative control

No 9-2 section a

17  yet she must not be unduly prejudiced by such reactions.
Hence, it is necessary that a critic develop a sensibility informed by familiarity with the history of art and aesthetic theory.
18  18 :it is insufficient to treat the artwork solely historically, in relation to a fixed set of ideas or values
a fixed set of ideas or values 相对应的就是 artistic element of uniqueness that requires subjective reaction;也就是artwork’s unique qualities
19  19
And here she faces a dilemma.
The critic must recognize the artistic element of uniqueness that requires subjective reaction; yet she must not be unduly prejudiced by such reactions. -----------passions
it is necessary that a critic develop a sensibility informed by familiarity with the history of art and aesthetic theory-----------------.intellect.

22  deep “canyon” scoring each face of the capsid.

No 9-2 section b

The writing of E F Z clearly exemplify this tradition
CULTURAL ACCOMODATION

S
culture of the majority.

24  In contrast, the “colonialist” approach of island-based writers such as Eduardo Seda-Bonilla, Manuel Maldonado-Denis, and Luis Nieves-Falcon tends to view assimilation as the forced loss of national culture in an unequal contest with imposed foreign values.

25  the forced loss of national culture in an unequal contest with imposed foreign values.
imposed foreign values.
This cultural and political emphasis is appropriate, but the colonialist thinkers misdirect it, 是不是这一句
那么就已经说明 他们regard the political AND politcs  as a significant factor

第一句还是在批驳colo的 approach but the colonialist thinkers misdirect it  表示全段的基调

Puritan culture had been dominant in all the non-Southern colonies

No 9-4 section b

22  To his surprise, Watanabe further found that the rabbits, like humans with familial hypercholesterolemia, lacked LDL receptors

25  But art amplifies itself to something universal.”

26  26  The subject matter of Bearden’s collages is certainly Black.
When speaking of Romare Bearden, one is tempted to say, “A great Black American artist.”

No 9-5 section a

22  social change
American economic and social conditions
因为他that affected the status of women

No 9-5 section b

18  altered to achieve the fundamental requirement
altered to achieve the fundamental requirement
need to be adjusted to ==== altered to

resolve the contradiction.=== fundamental requirement

a system free of contradictions, even if, in some cases, the alteration consists of labeling the new observation a “hallucination.”

Classical empiricism 只有confirm an existing generalization 没有 initiate a new generalization.
Classical empiricism
ANY OBSERVATION OF A NONRED BALL REFUTES UNEQUIVOCALLY THE PROPOSED GENERALIZATION

STARS WOULD DIE AS SUPERNOVA,但是实际上没有

AROUND 6M

26  almost but not quite rid themselves of the fluffy envelopes of gas around them, 可以看出来一部分
