TOPIC: ARGUMENT145 - A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person-often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed-and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

The arguer assert that the person who snores should eat less food and exercise more than the ordinary one. The evidences he/she cites including a research which shows that the people who snores gain more weight and tend to be tired to exercise during the day. Though it seems reasonable to believe the arguer, in-depth scrutiny reveals there are several fallacies.
To begin with, the arguer is too haste to draw the conclusion that the snore person are likely to gain more weight than the average one. There are possibly other alternative reasons behind this obstensible phenomenon. It is probably the fat people are tend to snore and just as opposite as snoring is the cause of putting weight, putting on weight is conducive to snoring. And maybe the candidates, who are gaining weight, are eating certain kind of food that is contributing to gaining weight. Then Without ruling out all the possibilities mentioned above, we can not accept this conclusion.
In addition, the assumption that the person snoring during the night may feel too tired to exercise is presumptuous. On the one hand it is suspicious that the sleep apnea which named in a research will actually render the person tired in the day time. Although the sleep apnea may truly happen in the sleeping of the person who snores, we can not assert his/her sleeping is waken by this briefly interruption. He or she may go on his or her dreams without noticing about this occasion. Therefore, their energy is not consumed during the night and may be as vigor as other people when wake up in the morning. On the another hand, though they may feel tired during the day, the arguer can not assert that they surely will exercise less during the day, they are very likely doing the same mount of exercise as the average person. As mentioned above, the assumption made by the author is unconvincing.
Finally, even assuming the person who snores indeed feel tired during the day, to suggest the person to exercise more is groundless. Considering these people are already very tired, then more exercise is harmful for them, for they are possibly feel exhausted after the equal quantities of exercise of ordinary person, let alone more. Maintaining the condition of exhaustion is not good for human beings. Consequently, doing more exercise is detriment to their physical and mental healthy.
In sum, the claim supported by the arguer suffers lots of logical errors, we need to make clear the real causes of gaining weight, and investigate whether the people who snores are really get tired, hence we can make a suggestion to the public. |
