1:Why do you want to study in USA?
me:As known to all, America has excellent education quality. The major I will go to learn is Nutrition and Applied Physiology, which is still in early status in china but have been fully developed for decades in America. To realize my dream, I have a long-term career plan and having good education in America is the first step.
2: In what aspect of your major will you study?
me: At first, I will learn all the aspects in nutrition science and the exercise physiology but later I would prefer to dig deeper in clinic nutrition, esp. the effect of chronic deseases and how to use medical priciples to intervene the development and prognosis fo these diseases.
3: Why do you want to pursue this master degree?
me: Coz I wanna equip myself with more professional knowledge and skills. I think this will give me more opportunities and help me work better in the future work.
4: But u r a MD rt? Why ms but not phd?(我以前是医生,在美国只有md才能行医,而中国的五年制本科医学在美国也都被认证为md的,这个我不想和他解释,太麻烦了会搞)
me:Phd emphasize on basic medicine research, but I have more interest in the application of those medical principles and the promotion of citizens health and I wanna have my own business. So I think a master program with internship suit me more. I clearly know what i do really need and i choose what i want.
5: How do you know this Univ.?
Who don't? cu has a long and brilliant academic history. And since Teachers College foundation in 1909. the Nutrition Program has been a leading one. I have read some publications of Professor Randi, who is a talented faculty in this program. Her research interests are factors influencing colorectal cancer and Nutrition factors in osteoporosis. Before applying we had communications through emails and telephones, and we both have interests to work together.
6 Why do you choose this Univ.?
This Nutrition Program fits my interest so well. It integrates the findings of nutrition science, nutrition education, behavioral science and public health to develop strategies for promoting health through dietary change and sports plan in individuals and communities. Another reason is that they provide great opportunities to have internship, which is practical and be of great help in the future work. All these make this program more valuable. A broad eyesight in one field is very important for a person who have entrepreneur spirit. No doubt, this is just what I want.
7 Why do you choose US but not Euro?
Actually, there’s used to be a Austrilian professor I got to know in my former wok. He admired me and invited my to go to work with him in a big cardiology center in Pers and promised me fully finance of all the learning and living expense. Sounds to be a good chance, huh?
But u know, to me money is not the problem, nothing is more valuable than time.So I wanna take good use of my time to do something I do really love and have interest in. By comparison, I found that American’s gradute education in medicine and health service careers emphasize more on application of basic principles. They provide very good internship opportunities and integrate nutrition, excise physiology, bio-behavior science and social medicine together. The atomosphere is open and creative.
8. To how many institutions have you applied, and who are they? Any other school admits you?
Apart from CU , I also had applied Purdue U, Boston U, Suny-buffalo, Wayne State Univ.
all of them admitted me but CU is the one match my interest mostly.
9. I noticed that u majored in medicine and used to be a doctor. Isn’t it a good job, u must work very hard before to be a doctor. Why do you change your major? Why don’t u wanna be a doctor anymore?
Actually nutrition is a brach of medicine. During my work, I noticed that in the medical field, we greatly lack professional nutritionist. You know, Modern medicine include not only just drugs and surgery, but also bio-behavior and nutrition therapy, which has especially importance in metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer. With the ageing of China’s population, incidence of these chronic diseases keep on increasing. So there's a big market and i do really have interest in this field and wanna have my own business. so i wanna be a nutritionist.
10 why u quitted ur former job?what have u done durring the past 9 months?
A :Sorry there’s a heart-breaking story and I don’t wanna talk about it anymore.
Anyway during the past year, I seriously thought about my life and me future once and once again, I took this break to learn something I have interest but got no time to experience when I was in medical school and work as a resident. All these thinking and learning helped me to know better of myself inside and the world outside. So now I could say that the decision to go to USA for further edu was made after deep consideration. Since I have fixed my future live and career plan, I will stick to it and try all my best to realize it as good as possible.
B:Doctor is a good career but to an individual the one suit her most is the really best choice. Through my previous work experience i found that my interest is to be a nutrionist but as a resident i am crazy busy and have little time to learn nutrition science. By the way , i wanna have my own consulting business so i think it's time to change to nutrition. During the past year i have read a lot of books about nutrition and bio-behavior science. They more i learn the more i recognized that i need to go to graduate school and have further education.
11 Why u think ur current choice is the one suit u most?
This choice is made after seriously consideration and based on my previous study and work experience. I have strong interest in nutrition consulting and health promotion, I also have great entrepreneur spirit. I don’t think that I have waste years on medical edu, on the contrary all the learning and work experience will be of great value in supporting my future career.
12 Have you any scholarship? Why do you receive financial aid from this?
No scholarship now, but basing on the development of this field in the future China ,I think this investment on education is worthwhile. It will earn me more money in the future.
13 How will u finance ur edu in the following years?
First of all, the number on the finance certificate has already covered the total expense of 2 years learning. Secondly, my dad is willing to support me given there’s any unexpected expenditure increase. He is a administrator o f government and has a solid annual income of xxxx. I have brought his work and income certificate, the bill of his investment in funds,… wanna c ?
At last, Maybe I will try to obtain on-campus work as a TA or RA.( 这个写了好还是不好,我就怕VO觉得我这么大人了还都靠父母没独立精神)
14 What is your plan? What will you do after graduation?
Plan A : My plan is to be excellent nutritionist and be a leader in this field. I plan to have my own health service business about nutrition and kinesiology consulting in Shanghai after graduation.
Nowadays, with the fast economic development in China, people pay more and more attention and money on their health. No one wanna get sick and everyone wanna be as healthier as possible. More and more, people know that good nutrition and exercise is not only needed by patients but also should be paid enough attention to keep health and be away from diseases. Thousands and millions of health centers are set up to fulfill this need. Considering the great population of China, health service is such a huge market. I used to join a volunteer activity and process epidemic data of shanghai citizens’ nutrition condition and their needs in medical education and consulting. The outcome greatly strengthened my belief that there’s much business opportunities there.
vo:R u sure that u can have ur own business after graduation ? It's not a easy thing? what will u do if u can't ?
Plan B: First of all, I am fully confident that if there’s anything unexpected happen and prevent me setting up my own business after graduation. I won’t give up my dream but can wait and do more preparation. During this period , I could look for a job in a hospital. U know such kind of professionals r in great need and with my edu and work background it’ll be easy to be hired and promoted in a hospital. I could improve my professional skills and set up broader network with administrators, doctors and patients. All of these will benefit my future own business career.
15 How much will you earn when you come back? Salary in the U.S.?
In the beginning of my own business, I am not sure how much can I earn ,but I have confidence with it’s growth the income will be satisfying basing on the hot economics and the huge health service market in shanghai.
And as to the salary in hospital, maybe it won’t be too high, but in China as a head of any department the salary will be high. Basing on current estimation the annual income of the head of nutrition department won’t be less than 300kRMB.
Salary in the U.S ? I do not know in details.
16 Give me three reasons that you will come back to China? You can also make more of this kind of money in US, why don’t you want to earn more? Why you come back to China instead of finding a job in America?
First of all,the economics of health service is on the rise. There's so much opportunities for me in china. Consulting services closely related to culture background, Obviously, to me, it’ll be easier to gain career success in China. Secondly, during my past learning and working experience, I have set up a broad network with people in this field, my classmates in medical school, my former colleagues, my family members, they will be of help me in my further career. Last but not least, China is my motherland. My family and my friends are all here. I live in Shanghai, I live happily in this city so I can’t see any reasons to settled down somewhere else and leave my family and friends.
17 What if I don’t give you the visa? If the VO want to refuse you …
I think I have fulfilled all the requirement to get an F1 visa,If u denied me I would ask for a second visa interview . Could u pls tell me where u feel unpropriate to give me visa. Maybe u need more communication to clear up the misunderstanding. |
