160"The most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Any leader who is quickly and easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion will accomplish little."
People are always talking about the most essential quality of an effective leader, if there is one, I think it is the ability to remain consistentlly committed to particular principles and objectives. Perseverance is one of the most improtant qualities of the leaders in any fields, such as business, politics, and even science.
In the business realm, a company which has its own brand image is more competitive in persuading customers to buy their products. Brand image is one of the results of perseverance of the company’s leader who refuse to low the quality of their products to make little profits. It is very hard at first fo creat their own brand image which will cost a lot of money to advertise and must have good quality products. If the leader of the company gives up his dream of creating their own brand image, they will soon make little profits in low price with low quality of products. However, their company will be buried in the sea of millions of such unobstrusive companies. In the contrary, if he insist on his goal of making his company the world famous one with bright brand image, he can do it at last. The only thing he needs to do is keeping perseverance and never giving up.
In the political realm, the issue is no less complex. The only difference between a leader and an average person is their duty. The average person represent himself while the leader represent his people. An average person can move himself from one thing to another for stimulation, the leader can not. Once he decides what he want to do and what will greatly benefit his people, he must insist on it until it is completely finished. As we all know, Xiaoping Deng, one of the most famous chinese leaders, is such a leader who bring the modle of marketing economy to china for the first time. Although he confronted many obstacles and misunderstanding, even impeachment, he never give up his thought. As a result of his perseverance, chinese people are now living in a society which is more stable, rich and presperous than it used to be with the running of the modle of marketing economy.
In the science realm, without perseverance, no scientists can make great progress in this field. Any achievement is attained by the effort of many scientists working together under the leadership of the chief scientist who has a solid goal, a positive attitude and a strong belief. Many programs they working on will greatly affected people’s living and so many money has been invested on it. If the chief scientist gives up, the program will be a great waste of money, effort and feeling.
All in all, if we view the leader’s perseverance to particula principles and objectives as a long journey by train. In order to arrive at the final station where bands will be playing and flags waving, the leader must endure the long dull journey avoiding getting out of the train in the middle station with most of the people.
