I agree with the assertion that it's necessary for an excellent and effective leader to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. Different from other jobs or positions in the world, a leader need many great characteristics to be effective and among them, the ethical and moral standard comes first. Leaders vary in 3 areas: business, politics and spiritual world. However, they all have the same features of high ethical and moral standards.

In business affairs, there's an old saying in China that "business is on the basis of honesty". It suggests that when we are doing business, we are not only selling our products to the customers, but also the great qualities of our products to them. Taking Bayer and Mitsubishi Motors for examples, we can see that how important the rule of honesty is. Bayer, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, ceased one of the major productions which is announced to contain harmful ingredients. Though after the announcement, the company suffers heavily in profits, however, it acquires social understanding and establishes social reputation, which contributes to the long-term success. On the other hand, Mitsubishi Motors had concealed the major defects in the break system of Pajero before their apology. Actually lots of car accidents were caused by the break system, as a result, the company suffers a lot in production returning and moreover, lose the confidence of the consumers.

While a highest ethical and moral standard should be maintained by the leaders in business area, it's also necessary for a political leader to have. In politics, we have individual morality and public morality. The former president of the United States George Washington is a famous not only for he's the first presidents of the United States, but also his great characteristic of honesty. Once little George got a nice hatchet and he was very proud of it. He was chopping everything that came his way including his father's favourite young English cherry tree. Then after his father discovered that the cherry tree's dead already, little George admitted that it's was his fault to chop the cherry tree. This story was well known as George Washington became famous, which suggests that honesty is the best quality for a great leader to maintain.

Furthermore, it's also important for a effective spiritual leader to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. There's no doubt that Martin Luther King sets the best example for us. Both the two leaders paid great attention to the development of ethical and moral level in citizens. Martin Luther King once said: "A boom of a country is not decided by the beautiful scenery as well as the affluence of the people, it's on what kind of education people have and what moral understanding people have." We see that Martin Luther King successfully led the fight for women's right and spread feminism. Thus, to be a great spiritual leader, one should maintain highest ethical and moral standards.

In sum, from the above arguments, we can see that no matter what kind of leader one is: business, politics and spiritual leader, it's necessary for him/her to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards.
