30 The primary goal of technological advancement should be to increase people's efficiency so that everyone has more leisure time

Can we generalize the main primary goal of technological advancement as r increasing people's efficiency to give everyone more leisure time, as the speaker asserts. In some sense, I tend to agree that people’s efficiency have been largely improved as a result of technological advancement. However, the speaker begs the question by overlooking significant changes technology have brought to other aspects.

Admittedly, the work of human beings has never been so efficient as today. The application of various advanced equipment extricates people from burdensome assignments. Depending on technology, people are able to achieve goals much more quickly as well as easily. Perhaps the paradigmatic example is the internet. Imagine that you live at the times when computers are not broadly used. It would be boring to attain information which is not available by familiar people or books you have at hands. You even dot not know who can provide the information and where to find. What was worse, you contribute a lot of time but achieve noting. How fortunately we are with the assist of internet! Just typing the key word and then clicking, all of what you need appear on the screen.

However, defining the chief goal of technological advancement as give people more leisure time is arbitrary. In fact, technological advancement aims at more vital benefits for human beings.

First of all, technology satisfies our insatiable appetites for knowledge, and our craving to understand ourselves and the world around us. For example, with the development of telescope technology as well as measurement of distances and volumes of planets, the unknown universe presents in front of us gradually.

Secondly, we are able to pursue a healthier life due to advancements in medical and biological technology. Biological analysis tells us potential impacts on health of various kinds of food, thus giving guidance on healthy dieting. Advanced medical equipment and methods can solve troubling problems traditional medications can not settle. Application of CT is a case in point. It can detect minor pathological changes of tissues on the basis of the principle that absorptivity of X-rays differs form tissue to tissue ,thus providing useful information about the patient’s disease to the doctor.

Last but not the least, the communication of cooperation among nations are facilitated by technology. In a on-line conference, scientists from various countries can talk on a hot issue, learn from each other and delicate to settling the issue together, sitting in the office of their own. There is no need for them to converge into a real conference room in a certain city as before.

As discussed above, the speaker oversimplify the purpose of technology advancement. Indeed, technology improved people’s efficiency, but other significant purposes should also be given more concentration.
