Does television make reading books obsolete? The speaker suggests so. With respect to some current issues, television indeed provides more up-to-date and accurate information. Yet, it is equal to the substitute of books. [equal?] After all, books are still our best teachers-not only because it contains a variety of knowledge, covering almost all academic fields, but also spark individuals interests as well as provides broader space for imagination.
There is no doubt to deny [毫无疑问否认?] the superior characteristic of television in spreading up-to-date information and attracting the masses eyeballs. As a result of relative low speed of publication, television-that of representative of modern media-can always broadcast newest information in nearly every respect, no matter political or economic. Besides, one of the significant functions of television relies on its calling public attention to certain pressing social issues. For example, several years ago the chancellor of one university located in my city was expelled by misusing university funds to renovate his posh personal residence. [北美的丑闻例子被你移花接木了,强!] This news rapidly spread through news[不要了] broadcasting and sparked a debate about the powers and duties of faculty. Moreover, after that our government raised the level of scrutiny to education fundraising system. Therefore, it is clear that through broadcasting newest information of societal problems, television successful catches people’s eyeballs and brings about some benefit.
Nevertheless, we cannot ignore the advantage of reading books, because it is the fundamental implement for human knowledge absorbing. Though, television can provide newest information, its functions are too ostensible and ephemeral. In addition, for the most profitable aims, managers of television stations only [to] cater for the interest of public, thereby neglecting the educational meanings of television. The whole day of soap dramas or entertain programs bombard individuals eyeballs, while leaving nothing in people's memory except ridiculous pieces. Yet, reading books cannot only serve to entertainment people, but also supply all types of knowledge in every academic field. No matter facial and elementary knowledge in physical sciences for amateurs, or professional ones for experts, such as the clone technology and newest string theory of physics, more often than not, you can find nearly everything you want in books. [例子不够强,ms电视也可以提供这些知识, 譬如电视知识不够系统,太浮浅,对于抽象概念的解释不如书本详细。。。] In short, even in contemporary society, books are still our best teachers for its integrity and variety of knowledge.
In addition, there are also many advantages that books are superior to television. For example, as a result of portable and need-not- electricity characteristics, individuals may take out a book whenever or wherever ones want. Or, consider the wonderful memory of scanning an interesting book in college library or sharing a picture book with best friends in childhood. What books leave us are all interesting or happy memory.
In conclusion, regarding to providing newest information , I agree that television indeed works people great benefit. However it can never substitute the status of books in studying. Not only because by reading books individuals can gain a large quantity of knowledge in nearly any respect, but also because books are easily portable and need-no- electricity, as well as provide readers wonderful memory during reading process.
