The speaker asserts that rituals and ceremonies help define a culture and that societies or groups of people have less sense of who they are without them. I concede that rituals and ceremonies can contribute to define a culture. On the other hand, some ceremonies that belong to some countries now have been shared by more peoples. Meanwhile(这里是递进吧,连接词不对) rituals and ceremonies are not the only things that can help identify a culture.
Admittedly, rituals and ceremonies are always with the special characteristics of some races and therefore can help identify a culture. For example, the Spring festival, the most important festival of Chinese, is a tradition with history of several thousand of years. At this festival, all Chinese go home and get together with the family members to enjoy the happiness of family and wish a good future to all family members. It reflects that family is most significant to the every Chinese and living with family is the happiest thing, which is the core of the Chinese culture. For another example, the Thanksgiving Day in western countries is an extremely important ceremony. On this day, people thanks god for things that he has given in the harvest season. This ceremony expresses the westerners' appreciation to the god who is most significant in the western cultures. Therefore, rituals and ceremonies contribute to identify a culture.(例子得当论述精炼)
With the globalization going on and communication becoming frequent among people in different countries, some ceremonies are now shared by increasingly people with different cultures. The communications with foreign countries bring in other cultures including the rituals and ceremonies. Take the Valentine's Day as an example; the Valentine's Day was a custom for the lovers only in western countries. Yet, nowadays young lovers in Asian countries, such as China, Korea, Japan and so forth, give flowers and chocolates to their lovers to express their sweet love. Thus, the Valentine's Day has become a ceremony of people in both west and east of the world. Moreover, increasing people in China bless each other on December 25th and Christmas day has also become a ceremony in China, too. In short, increasing ceremonies are shared by more people with the communication among countries.(这个观点很新颖那,例子也很好)
Besides a culture can be identified by rituals and ceremonies, it is also expressed in our daily lives. We can see a culture from every aspect in our lives. There are plenty of examples. Chinese eat rice with chopsticks while Americans have beef and bread with folks and knives. Chinese are always implicative and modest whereas Americans are open-minded and aggressive. People in east always shake hands for greeting while westerners hug and kiss when they meet some acquaintance. Thus, culture can be identified in many ways besides rituals and ceremonies.(这段跟前面好像不搭界啊....)
In sum, since rituals and ceremonies always possess characteristics of their races, they can help define a culture. Yet, some ceremonies are accepted by more people with distinct cultures because the increasing communication in the world. In addition, not only rituals and ceremonies are able to contribute to identify a culture, but also details in our daily lives do so.
我觉得这篇文章有一个比较大的问题大家都犯了,就是忽视了"Without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are",这个可是这篇的ISSUE所在,前面说了这么多,就是为了讨论这个问题,但是文中基本没有看到.审题啊审题! |
