TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."

Step into a library, come to the shelves of autobiography,  a chain of famous names are printed on the spine of books in front of you. Innumerable individuals of great character call up our attention when looking back to the history. Partly same as to the speaker's opinion, progress in history is by no means achieved only by the great few. Common people also play a undeniable part in that. However, both of the them push the wheels of history rather than either part.

Admittedly, heroes appears in every era, the maker of most significant events and trends. They make significant contributions to human history, which can never be forgotten, when difficulties lie in the way. It is usually several individuals  that lead us a peaceful life, make the human being surroundings a civilization,  develop a new epoch of history.  For example, George Washington lead the people of America to establish a kingdom of freedom, equality and democracy. Abraham Lincoln wiped off the chains, slavery, on negroes. Martin Luthor King scrambled for the rights, not  being judged by the color of skin but the content of character, for black.  All these great events will not be forgotten by the human, as the achievement of great individuals.

However, the world consists of so many people that several individuals are insufficient to change it. Too much has been emphasized on the famous few when we study history. A bunch of branches will make a fire, while one piece may not. One person's power is limited in face of a group. Without the participation of more common people, whose identities have long been forgotten, lots of miracles of human history could not be achieved and history can hardly advance. Taking the most outstanding man-made miracle, the Great Wall, one of the mere two constructions, which can be seen in the outer space, into account, the Great Wall is considered as the achievement of the Chin Shihhuang, first emperor who unifies the entire China. However, everyone knows that hundreds of thousands of people were gathered to build the miracle for a decade. We can pick up similar  examples everywhere in history. The use of majority of people would never be neglected in history.

As to that a machine never works by a sole motor, without components of bearings, srew, nuts, human history never progress without either of great leaders and common people. Only the combination of the two power makes a great goal realized. The foundation of new China cannot leaves either Chinese people or chairman Mao. Everyone is an essential part of a certain great achievement that could not be treated unfairly.

To sum up, history is shaped by all human being involving great individuals and common people. It is key individuals' visions of future and common majority's great power make history in a significant progress so that neither of them should be overlooked.
