138 "only through mistakes can there be discovery or progress"

The creative director of an advertising agency once said that he isn't happy unless he is failing at least half of the time. As he puts it,” If you are going to be original, you are going to be wrong a lot" .Another client, the president of a fast-growing computer company, tells his people:” We’re innovators. We’re doing things nobody has ever done before. Therefore, we are going to be making mistakes. My advice to you: make your mistakes, but make them in a hurry." In deed, I strongly agree with that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes.
Retrospect the whole history, the great individuals is the person which undertakes trial-and-error. Columbus thought he was finding a shorter route to India. Madame Curie thought failed experiences to found out the unknown radiation. Johannes Kepler stumbled on to the idea of interplanetary gravity because of assumptions which were right for the wrong reasons. And, Thomas Edison knew 1800 ways not to build a light bulb. Therefore both so-called "mistakes" were necessary for science and knowledge to advance, or progress, or to update.
Most people consider success and failure as opposites, but in my personal view they are actually both products of the same progress and discovery. It is the same with take opportunities to acquire progress; the same with original and creative thinking; the same energy which generates good creative ideas also produces errors. If you're not making many mistakes, you should ask yourself" How many opportunities am I missing by not being more aggressive, excellent and superiority?"
Consider these two benefits of failure .In the one hand, if you do fail, you learn what doesn’t work. And the errors tell us when to change direction. Negative feedback means that the current approach is not working, and it is up to you to figure out a new one. On the other hand, the failure gives you an opportunity to try a new approach. If we did things correctly every time, we would never have to change direction-we'd just continue the current course and end up with more of the same. When things are going smoothly, we generally don't think about them.
In sum, the speaker correctly asserts that it is through mistakes that discovery and true progress are made. Mistakes provide the very foundation for discovery and true progress, in all realms of human endeavor.
25"Anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction—in other words, to make things as simple as possible."25 每个人都能把事情搞大搞复杂。
108."In many countries it is now possible to turn on the television and view government at work. Watching these proceedings can help people understand the issues that affect their lives. The more kinds of government proceedings - trials, debates, meetings, etc. - that are televised, the more society will benefit."108 在很多国家,人们一打开电视就能看到政府人员办公的场景。
167."It is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician."
New
214."Society should identify those children who have special talents and abilities and begin training them at an early age so that they can eventually excel in their areas of ability. Otherwise. these talents arc likely to remain undeveloped."

In deed, I strongly agree with that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes.(这两个引用好贴切啊,是从哪儿招来的?

Madame Curie thought failed experiences to found out the unknown radiation. Johannes Kepler stumbled on to the idea of interplanetary gravity because of assumptions which were right for the wrong reasons. And, Thomas Edison knew 1800 ways not to build a light bulb. Therefore both so-called "mistakes" were necessary for science and knowledge to advance, or progress, or to update.(这几个例子都很贴切)

It is the same with take opportunities to acquire progress; the same with original and creative thinking; the same energy which generates good creative ideas also produces errors. If you're not making many mistakes, you should ask yourself" How many opportunities am I missing by not being more aggressive, excellent and superiority?"(有个问题想讨论一下,成功和失败能和对与错等同吗?

When things are going smoothly, we generally don't think about them.(感觉这两个优点差不多.)
In sum, the speaker correctly asserts that it is through mistakes that discovery and true progress are made. Mistakes provide the very foundation for discovery and true progress, in all realms of human endeavor.
