161"In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any woman or man as a hero. The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished."
In the era when media develop marked, so many people are catapulted to celebrities, unfortunately their reputation seems just like a bubble which will break immediately. This claim contains two viewpoint, the first is that nobody can become a hero, the second is as long as subjected to media, anyone is doomed to fail to protect his or her reputation from being diminished. I agree the first viewpoint but disagree the second one.
In the first place, media makes so many people become celebrities that none of them can attract enough attention from public. As a polynary society, society involves numerous realms in all of which a lot of successful individuals emerge every day. For example, there are some individuals achieving Nobel Prize every year, some individuals achieving Oscar prize, some individuals performs wonderful in NBA. No matter how splendid they are, maybe they can attract majority of public’s attention for a short while, maybe they can attract a little part of public’s attention for a long time, however, it is almost impossible for anyone to attract majority’s attention continuously. Every day, on public turning on their television, there are so many news and so many persons attracting their eyes that they often become confused and do not know which one diverse their attention. Failing to attracting enough attention from public, it is difficlut for celebrities to grow to heroes.
In the second place, in order to pander to public's addition to public's privacy, almost all media make effort to hunt celebrities' privacy. Nowadays, it has become impossible for celebrities to protect their privacy, instead, they find paparazzi are omnipresent, who try their best to collect public figures’ privacy to maximize their media’s profit. Many celebrities’ reputation were tarnished by media because of something that does not do with public. For example a famous singer, who used to own unnumbered fans , was reported to be a gay, as a result his reputation was destroyed inevitably. Because celebrities’ privacy almost are all under public's eyes, it is almost for them to become heroes.
However, it is too absolute that the reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished. Realistically, as for many celebrities, although they have not been regarded as hero, their reputation has not been tarnished. For instance, former Board Governor for Federal Reserve System, Alan Greenspan, who used to be the cynosure, keep good reputation continuously. Similarly, Bill Gates, the richest guy who influence the world profoundly, seems without any flaw in reputation. In fact, as long as a individual restrict himself and herself strictly, it is possible to keep perfect reputation, even if he or she can not be regarded as hero.
To sum up, intense media catapults many individuals to celebrities, none of them can stay is the center of public’s attention, besides profit-oriented media addict in hunting celebrities’ privacy, therefore if is difficult for society to regard any female or male to be heroes. However, as long as individuals restrict their action strictly, their reputation will not be tarnished.
