147. "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."
时间:2007-07-28 时间:2.5hrs 字数:551
I disagree completely that we must choose between tradition and modernization due to their incompatibility. Although the development and advancement with modernization sometimes replace previous life styles, mores, even ways of thinking, we must admit that tradition inevitably has influenced, and probably will continuously influence on us in numerous aspects of society.
On one hand, a large number of traditional habits are gradually substituted for modern brands, where the both can not exist simultaneously. Mobile-phone, e-mail and other high-technological communications exclude interpersonal face-to-face conversations to express our hug in time and the situation of sitting down and putting pen to paper to write heartfelt letters. In this fashionable style, we enjoy the convenience with less time involved for free meanwhile we are losing a formerly expressive gesture for others, and we can not reconcile them embracing both the favorites of the two different matter. We have to make a choice. In addition, various pollutions such as air pollutions, water pollutions, food pollutions industrial development brings about could never parallel previous comfortable, clean, and safe surroundings which is rarely full of fast vehicles, heavy-metal contained rivulets, and hybrid wheat, which maybe we do not have a probability to choose.
In addition, what is a lunatic wrongdoing a person even a insightful prophet thinks about brave thoughts and research on human genome plans that cast countless efforts and money on the deciphering the whole human genes, and when previous person glance at a heart-transplanted operation, the first thing after the faint seems to prosecute the criminals, let alone he is told to vote for or against the clones. New thoughts with modern development can not indeed be incompatible with those traditional mores and views.
On the other hand, the society we face to now is actually an expansion of the formerly, rather than a complete reconstruction after erasing. In view of culture, no one can deny the important influences traditional habits and mores, and just because the diverse traditional impacts, our society is showing a diverse revelation each distinguished nations possess, Such as Christmas Day and Valentine's day in western countries, the Spring Festive and dumplings in China and numerous wedding rituals, which are all preserved
well and quite a little development by cultural collision and cultural mixing resulting from modern communication. We have chosen a better employment of both tradition and modernization. Moreover, take the process of law enacting for example, the law now limiting and protecting our rights has experienced over a long period for revising, supplementing or abridging on the basis of previous law remains. The former is more rational, more comprehensive, more human-centered while the latter is prone to satisfy the interests of some small group and so inconsiderate or even biased. Just thanks to a suitable expansion or fusion emanated from the previous laws, there are more complete laws to make a proper adjustment when sudden, never-happen matter need a help from laws. Therefore, the satisfaction of the modern laws actually depend largely on the formal laws, that is traditions.
In conclusion, I keep neutral regarding the opinion that tradition and modernization are incompatible. I just agree in some extent this view due to inevitable conflicts when the two meets, while in some other extent, however, they works coordinately in view of so numerous learning from traditional matters.

ISSUE 28 (教育)
28. "Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."
1:I agree after learning the ideas, trends, and concepts can help explain and learn better those facts, it also can help deeper research in view of handling comprehensive the facts, such as a student studying the development of species
2: but, we should focus on excessively some facts which become axiom and have pervasive acceptance, even we do not know the ideas, trends, and concepts, it is OK to use and do not exclude its appliance to other field and latter research, and it will not be a obstacle to future learn ,and only knowing the facts is enough.
3:learning is a process of absorbing and digestion, if necessary, applying on other fields and following research, and the way of learning is numerous, not just relying on the facts, the experience of searching may be more important in some extant.

130. "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
1: I agree how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society:
The process of socialization is the process by which human being learn to adopt the behavior patterns of the community where they live, the children is the future of society, and personality future adults possess is very important for the destiny of society
2:we all know what to better for raising children , responsibility, competition and cooperation, originality, industriousness, etc.
3:but, not everyone learned how to raise the children to be socialized, even they have the consciences and preparation for the socialization, that is a abstruse knowledge to study.
