----------------------------
The author asserts that only those people who live after those great individuals can observe and understand their greatness rather than the contemporaries. In my view, while I fundamentally agree with the author's assertion, however, sometimes it's possible for the contemporaries to decide the greatness of individuals.

To begin with, it's true that the society is making progress as time goes on, which makes it possible for the generations to obtain a better view of observation and evaluation. With the development of science and technology, people are getting well educated than ever before. Thus, people find it possible to accept something that were totally negated in the past. Take the Russian writer Pasternak for example. In his early life, he wrote a book named Doctor Zhivago, which best reflected the temporal society in his country. However, for some reasons, his book was totally negated and enjoined from the government. Not until the last year of his life, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for this book and people began to find the significant parts from his book. Therefore, sometimes people live in the same era with the great individuals may not observe his or her greatness and make wrong evaluation them.

Moreover, there is something whose value gradually enhances with an individual's personal experience as time goes by. The art works is just a case in point. For most time, art works are abstract and advanced so that their value cannot be observed by people easily then. However, as time goes by, the comprehension ability of people enhanced, which makes it possible for them to appreciate and evaluate an art work in a comprehensive way. For instance, the great painter Van Gogh, who is famous for his painting "sunflower" and "cornfield and crow", was not recognized by people for a long period. His great art works are widely known and accepted by people after his self-suicide in 1890. Hence, an art work has its special value related to time, which makes it possible for people to be aware of its greatness after a certain period.

However, it's not always impossible for the contemporaries to evaluate and discover the greatness of the individuals. For example, some art works are tightly associated with the times such as Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies. These art works best reflect the temporal society thus people who lived at that time can best understand its meaning. Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies are just a mirror of the temporal people's life, thus people at that time might understand them better than the generations. Therefore, when the greatness of an individual is tightly associated with the times, the contemporaries may have a better understanding of the greatness than people who live after them.

All in all, from what has been discussed above, we can easily draw our conclusion that for most circumstance, people who live after the great individuals may understand better of his greatness.  Meanwhile, it's also possible that the contemporaries may understand better of the greatness of individuals when it's tightly associated with the times.

However, for some reasons, his book was totally negated and enjoined from the government. Not until the last year of his life, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for this book and people began to find the significant parts from his book. [其实我也不擅说理,不过这里可以写写后代怎么就可以看到其伟大] Therefore, sometimes people live in the same era with the great individuals may not observe his or her greatness and make wrong evaluation them.

For example, some art works are tightly associated with the times such as Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies. These art works best reflect the temporal society thus people who lived at that time can best understand its meaning. Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies are just a mirror of the temporal people's life, thus people at that time might understand them better than the [future] generations.

The author asserts that only those people who live after those greatindividuals can observe and understand their greatness rather than thecontemporaries. (把rather than放在can的前面)In my view, while(不要while或者后面的however) I fundamentally agree with theauthor's assertion, however, sometimes it's possible for thecontemporaries to decide the greatness of individuals.

To begin with, it's true that the society is making progress as timegoes on, which makes it possible for the generations to obtain a betterview of observation and evaluation. With the development of science andtechnology, people are getting well educated than ever before. Thus, people find it possible to accept something that were totally negatedin the past. Take the Russian writer Pasternak for example. In hisearly life, he wrote a book named Doctor Zhivago, which best reflectedthe temporal society in his country. However, for some reasons, hisbook was totally negated and enjoined from the government. Not untilthe last year of his life, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for this bookand people began to find the significant parts from his book. Therefore, sometimes people live in the same era with the greatindividuals may not observe his or her greatness and make wrongevaluation them.

Moreover, there is something whose value gradually enhances with anindividual's personal experience as time goes by. (这句话表达有些问题)The art works is justa case in point. For most time, art works are abstract and advanced sothat their value cannot be observed by people easily then. However, astime goes by, the comprehension ability of people enhanced, which makesit possible for them to appreciate and evaluate an art work in acomprehensive way. For instance, the great painter Van Gogh, who isfamous for his painting "sunflower" and "cornfield and crow", was notrecognized by people for a long period. His great art works are widelyknown and accepted by people after his self-suicide(suicide就是自杀) in 1890. Hence, anart work has its special value related to time, which makes it possiblefor people to be aware of its greatness after a certain period.(梵高的例子之后要对梵高的画和人们的理解水平提高联系起来。)

However, it's not always impossible for the contemporaries to evaluateand discover the greatness of the individuals. For example, some artworks are tightly associated with the times such as Shakespeare'stragedies and comedies. These art works best reflect the temporalsociety thus people who lived at that time can best understand itsmeaning. Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies are just a mirror of thetemporal people's life, thus people at that time might understand thembetter than the generations. Therefore, when the greatness of anindividual is tightly associated with the times, the contemporaries mayhave a better understanding of the greatness than people who live afterthem.

All in all, from what has been discussed above, we can easily draw ourconclusion that for most circumstance, people who live after the greatindividuals may understand better of his greatness.  Meanwhile, it'salso possible that the contemporaries may understand better of thegreatness of individuals when it's tightly associated with the times.
