Argument145 Anew study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely togain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many peoplewho snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, acondition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes theperson—often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed—and can leave the persontoo tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should tryto eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

The arguer concludes that people who snore should try toeat less than average people and to exercise more. At first glance, his view seems to be sound and well-presented.However, I’m afraid his argument can hardly bear further consideration sincethere are several flaws in it.

Firstly,the arguer is failing to provide convincing evidence to provet hat interruption of breathing caused by snore make people too tired to exercise during the day. He does not tell us what frequency such interruption of breathing has, and how greatly it affects people’s tiredness. It is possible that the interruption frequency is very low and it places only tiny influence on people’s weariness, if so, interruption of breathing might not cause the fatigue. Even if it does, is the tiredness so serious that people can’t take any exercise during the day? It is quite possible that though people are a bit tired in the day, they are still able to do exercise to keep healthy. Thus, without considering the above possibility, the arguer’s claim is untrustworthy.

Secondly, even assuming that those who snore indeed reduce their day's exercises, to claim that the decline in their day exercises can make them gain weight is unwarranted. The arguer ignores the possibility that due to the fatigue caused by sleep apnea people might feel relatively spirited at night after a day’s rest or a nap at noon, and they might take some exercises at night. What’s more, they might take exercise to improve their bad equality of their sleep. In addition,there are many other possible alternatives responsible for increasing weight of those who snore. Such alternatives include that the gene factor, ruleless work-rest schedule, unhealthy diet mainly composed of high fat and calorie like cakes andcola, long time sleeping, and some diseases like hyperinsulinism. Hence, without considering the above possibility, the arguer’s claim is unconvincing.

Finally, granted that lacking of exercise lead to increase in weight of snoring people, no evidence shows that eating less and exercising more is an effective and healthy way to lose weight. As there is no evidence proves that those who gained weight eat too much, the suggestion to reduce eating is ridiculous. We all know that to eat how much is based on the body’s need. If we eat too little, our body might fail to supply enough energy to support so many exercises, or even worse, we might weaken our health and become more easily to get some diseases such as anemia, especially for children and pregnant women. Even if those who snore reduce the total amount of their foods, they can not reduce their weight and even increase their weight if foods with high calorie like meats and cheeses take up a steadfast or even large proportion in their diet. Without ruling the possibilities above,the arguer’s conclusion is problematic.

In all, to persuade me that eat less than average people and to exercise more is necessary for people who snore to lose weight, thearguer must provide detaiedl information that sleep apnea caused by snore indeed makes people too tired to exercise during the day, and offer convincing evidence that the decline in their day exercises is mainly responsible for their gained weight. Moreover, the arguer should show me that eating less and exercising more is an effective and healthy way to lose weight.
