Considering that there are more and more social problems becoming worldwide, some people state that we should build up a global university to engage students in the process of solving those most persistent social problems and all nations ought to help support this plan. I concede solving those social problems needs the cooperation from all over the world, however, whether such a global university is worthy to support is still suspectable.

First of all, undoubtedly, the society and the earth we live in are undergoing a series problem, the damage of which is not limited in a sole area but spreading to the whole world. One can list a large bill of this kind of social problems, while the most famous one might be the environment pollution or territorial wars. The excess exhaust gas transporting through the air flow might lead an increasing temperature of another country far from the pollutant source, and the disafforestation of one country is able to aggravate the desertification of his neighbor countries. Therefore, to solve those social problems appeals to the international cooperation. All nations should help the programs which devote to cure those social diseases.

However, I cannot help to ask, could the global university work well for this purpose? Each social problem, no matter how far it has spreaded to, must generate from his particular circumstances. Considering the unequal developing of the various countries in the world, it will be difficult to solve certain problems in certain areas by only global conception. The proper solutions should base on the local situation and ensure the benefit of future generation as well as concerning the need of the contemporary. It will be such a complex system that beyond the ability of one university.

What's more, if we consent the function of the global university, there are still some critical questions involved: who will be enrolled in this university, who is wise enough to teach those lectures, how to examine the students eligibly, and so forth. Obviously, the student of such a global university is educated to be a leader who could lead his people to advance and reform his society, or maybe just a subject, an industry. Perhaps the non-chosen outstanding people will feel unequal, consequently oppose or even prevent the efforts made by those chosen elite. In short, establishing such global university might bring more problems than benefits.

To sum up, the issue of developing a global university which is designed to engage the students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems is a complex one. We cannot guarantee this plan could help to solve those problems as it designed to be. Definitely international cooperation is the core spirit of our modern society; however, we should use this conception properly and efficiently.
