"All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

A global university indeed does good to solve the world's most persistent social problems. However, the author is too ideal to bring forth the suggestion. In fact, there are so many elements which need to be taken into account before the establishment of such a global university.

Despite its good purpose, a global university is not feasible in the today’s world, at least at the present. The administrative and academic problems in the newly built university are the first one to be dealt with. Admittedly, students of diverse culture and ideas will help to solve some different global problems. But, there have not been any suggestion formed in terms of the teaching system of such a university. No criteria for the selection of the professors and principals have been brought forth either. Furthermore before the professors start teaching, should they receive any training specialized in this global teaching program? If need, then, who, in the current, is competent of such a task to be their trainer? All this problems mentioned above are projects that need to spend a long period of time to work out an approach. So long a period of time that it makes the practice of the global university out of the question at the present.

In addition, the global university is also hard to put into practice in the respect that we cannot persuade all nations to contribute their elites to such a university because every country has its own problems which need to be dealt with right now. Obviously, students or professors who are needed in a global university are also playing a crucial role in the process of solving the domestic problems in a country. If they invest too much in the global university program, their nation might be put into a dangerous situation, with many crucial problems unsolved. Just like many managers of big enterprises in developed countries refuse to invest money in such project, because they do not see any certain profit in the future. The same with the global university. Many countries whose people are still in poverty are certainly not willing to spend a coin on such a project, which deals with economic reform or something seems irrelevant to them at the present. There are more crucial problems inside their country which in the great need of elites and professors to stress on. Thus, the global university can only be left as a dream to be achieved in the long future.

However, I do not mean to deny the benefits of a global university if it can be successfully built. Nowadays, world is facing diversified social problems, including economic reform, environmental problems, epidemics like AIDS and so forth, which need the worldwide cooperation. But due to many elements that obstruct the way to a global university, we should focus on something more practice at the present. In fact, nowadays, with the modernization and globalization, many world famous universities, such as Harvard and Stanford, have absorbed students and professors from every part of the world. People here can discuss problems in a global sight, with different cultures involved in. These universities are serving as global universities. To make full use of the current resources makes more sense than to consider on how to build to new global university, which might turn out to be an empty dream.

In sum, although the purpose of the global university is quite reasonable and persuasive, it is not a practical project. Before the school is taken into practice, more problems brought by it should be dealt with first. While, the resources are limited and precise, we should make most use of them in a more reasonable way and in more practical issues.
