TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."


The speaker asserts that children's socialization determines the destiny of society and we have not learned how to bring up children who can help bring about a better society. As far as I concerned, while it is true that socialization of children play an important role in society's development, there are also other factors contributing to the society’s progress. And the claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children well would benefit the society better is also conflict with the reality.

Socialization of children is the base of keeping a society being uniformity. As a child born in the world, his socialization will be continuous, by his parents, his teachers, and all the other people around him. Through this process, he becomes aware of his role in the society and his responsibility for it. In other words, by socialization, the child knows that as a member of society, he must conform to some basic norms, and otherwise he would be labeled as an abnormal person and excluded by the society. Basic norms, such as having respect for others, being honest, cooperative and so on, all of which construct a common form for the people in the society to comply. In short, if children, who are the future of society, are not well socialized, the destiny of society will be trapped in chaos.

However, the destiny of society not only be affected by socialization of children but also by other factors, such as scientific technology and natural environment. Admittedly, without conformity, the society will fall in chaos. Whereas, just socialize children but not give them some essential knowledge or technology skills the society will be also stand still or even reverse. It can be proven by many cases in the history. It is not difficult to find that after any disaster which damage most schools where students receive knowledge and skills mostly. The society would be still or fall behind for a long time until its education reconstructed. For that matter, that is why almost every country in the world is concerned with the education of children. In addition, human society also a part of nature, we get sources and other basic survival conditions from it. If now the globe is going to explode, even though human have a high quality of socialization or a well developed scientific knowledge and skills, destiny of society would also be changed. This can also account for why more and more people pay attention to preserve the environment. It closely relates human beings and the destiny of society as well.  

When it comes to how to raise children who can help bring about a better society, although sometimes we would make some mistakes, in generally, with the development of technology and sociology people gradually know how to raise "better" children effectively. More and more people including parents, teachers, and sociologists place emphasis on both socialization and acquisition of knowledge of children now. Meanwhile educational revolution is also nonstop. And by this way, just during several decades recently, the human society has progress more greatly than ever before, whatever in technology or humanities. All of this was just the contribution of children who were raised several decades ago. If we have not yet learned how to raise children better, then why so many achievements we have got. Consequently, in respect of raising children, we have gradually learned much about how to do better.

In sum, children's socialization provides a uniformity of society, which indeed affects the destiny of society intensively. However, besides of this, other requirements can also not be ignored. Fortunately, we have gradually known about this and how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
