题目：ISSUE64 - "Many people know how to attain success, but few know how to make the best use of it."

The author asserts that many people know how to attain success, while few know how to make best use of it. I strongly agree with him/her. In my opinion, a proper altitude on success contributes to an effective use of it.

For different people, success means different things: for an inventor may be a good idea or a kind of smart invention which serves human beings and meanwhile brings about benefits to himself or herself, for politicians a triumph in election that may sends him into the top of the ladder of power, for a reformer the establishment of a new system, which he may devote his whole lifetime to design and refine, for an enterpreter the growing of his/her business that directly means money to him/her, and so forth. However, what should they do when their goals achieved? And how can the success in their hand be fully ultilized? Some instances in the history may answer these questions for us.

Whatever else to be said, most people would agree that the significant achievement made by Washington in rewriting the American history is immortal: it is Washington who led American people travel their road into victory of the war over British colonists. However, what he had done after he achieved this success was more admirable--he considered the victory not his beginning of power and enjoyment but a means for America people's liberty and first step to an ultimate democratic country. Thus, when facing with the highest honor and greatest power in hand, he chose to refuse to take up the position as the president of America. It is America's fortune to have a wise and selfless president who fully knew that his leave rather than his stay will merit the newborn country more, even when the choice was against his own benefits. What was in his perspect may be the significance of his behavior as a pattern, while what may lie out of his anticipation was the supreme respect from American people forever.

As an instance of people who failed to make good use of their success, I will take the naval supremacy of Spain. At the peak of Spain's position in world's history was its naval supremacy in the short period before the Industry Revolution in Europe. In its time, due to colonies all around the world supported by the great power in its navy, gold and silver poured into this small country in an amazing speed. However, the Spainish took this success as their capital for hedonistic life: the success in pillage was not ultilized in its own country's construction; instead, most money was spent on buying costly exotic luxuries. At the very time that its supremacy was gone, no actually industries were left in Spain, and people there could not even get an ample life. Spain missed its superduper chance suffering from a lack of awareness to ultilize its success.

So, success can be the end of an inventor's exertion of his innovations with an altitude of complacence and meanwhile the beginning of a deep exploration into the science essential with a sharpened curiousness. Politician's unchanging caution facing the power can lead him/her into prominent achievement while with indulgence after the victory he/she would collapse into abuse and failure. Success may mean a path to another success, even greater as well as a road leading to failing which indicates that the success is only an ephemeral scene. That depends on altitudes.
