TOPIC: ARGUMENT50 - From a draft textbook manuscript submitted to a publisher.

"As Earth was being formed out of the collision of space rocks, the heat from those collisions and from the increasing gravitational energy of the planet made the entire planet molten, even the surface. Any water present would have evaporated and gone off into space. As the planet approached its current size, however, its gravitation became strong enough to hold gases and water vapor around it as an atmosphere. Because comets are largely ice made up of frozen water and gases, a comet striking Earth then would have vaporized. The resulting water vapor would have been retained in the atmosphere, eventually falling as rain on the cooled and solidified surface of Earth. Therefore, the water in Earth's oceans must have originated from comets."

In the argument above, it mainly debate on the case of the origination of Earth's ocean. Its conclusion looks a bit of rationality with respect to some evidences presented. In order to comprehensively understand whether or not the speaker stand in ground of truth, we need certain analysis on the evidence presented here. But it is not our business to tackle such a big issue here. To finally confirm which matter or activation leads to formation of our oceans is merely the work waiting for scientists tackling.

First the argument has insufficient evidences in how Earth being formed while it only says the collision is. To ensure the formation of pre-Earth is very important. If the earth were indeed formed by a collision, such as by the evolution of small meteors, accumulation of dusty, then it will not have the gravitational energy causing the water evaporation, making the possible origination of water in Earth may not the comets. What is more, even though it is exactly the collision respects the collision, in extent to the possibility that the gravitation may big enough capturing them the vaporized water air at the very begin, the water in ocean nowadays may mostly comes, if not entirely, from the evaporated water but remains. When our planet cooled down, the evaporated water will accordingly return into liquid water, finally consist of oceans today.

On another hand, even though the collision causing the formation of Earth, and further it is lack of water while at formatting, it also doesn't necessarily indict that the comets will provide the water. The formation of water has diverse possibility, even never the existence of those comets. Comet also absolutely possibly never strike Earth or thought those striking really occurred, the water may also wasn't assimilated by Earth since it may just evaporate and never retain by the gravitation of Earth. As we know that water is the most fundamental as well as the simplest elementary in the university, then, to produce water in Earth is very easy, just considering the biological production effect.
Deep down, although the water came from those comets, the ocean may just depend upon itself to form. Ocean may not form just after preserving certain water. To believe the evolution process of Earth leads the appearance of oceans may work more well in the forming procedure.
