1 不同意作者的看法
2 确实有不相容存在;但是不相容是可以减少的
3 更多的情况是相容,传统和现代在各自领域能和谐共处并为社会服务
4 现代化手段可以给传统带来新生

The speaker claims that tradition and modernization can not exist together. However, as I see it, although tradition and modernization might contradict to each other, most of time, they can be compatible. Moreover, the modernization is able to help preserve and make tradition even better.

Indeed, the incompatibility between tradition and modernization exists. And that's because of their inner attributes--the battle between the new things represented by modernization and the old things behind the back of tradition. One example that aptly illustrates the point involves the generation gap. In this interim of past and future, the elder people find this world increasingly stranger and turbulent, the young people, on the other hand, are thriving in this environment. Naturally, the differences on life attitude, values and ideas between the elder and the young become obvious and that is what we call generation gap. The gap between generations actually is the result of conflict between modern civilization and traditional customs. Young people are born in a more rapidly changing society, thus their acceptance of new ideas is easier than the elder. The elder, on the other hand, cling to the traditions more tenaciously and hence they are not that tolerant about new ideas like the young people. Consequently, those differences appear and grow, and then the generation gap is finally built. However, the root for any incompatibility between tradition and modernization, generation gap included, lies in the asymmetry of acceptance of new ideas. And deep down, the asymmetry of acceptance is the asymmetry of information. Thus, guiding people know about and appreciate the beauty of both tradition and modernization might be the most conducive way to reduce the incompatibility of them.

On the other hand, there is actually more compatibility than incompatibility in the world. After all, tradition and modernization are not enemies. And they can exist together perfectly well in their own territories and serve for the society. Town planning conditions in many cities make compelling examples. For instance, in New York City which can not be a better  paragon of modernization, Trinity Cathedral dated back in the nineteenth century is still located on the west end of Wall Street. The interesting part is that this Gothic architecture does not look abrupt in this forest of skyscrapers at all. Let us take a look at another metropolis Paris, she owns Center Pompidou which is the milestone of modern industrial style architecture, in the same time, she preserves Louvre Museum with a history of hundreds of years. What is more surprising is that, even the classical Louvre has a modern-look entrance--Louvre Pyramid designed by Ieoh Ming Pei. The historical architectures which defense the past will never intervene with those modern architectures which are symbolic of modern civilization. They both stand in the skylines of cities harmoniously to make a special mix & match style painting for everyone. Preserving the original territories is the source of harmony between tradition and modernization.

Furthermore, with the help of modernized measures, tradition will shinning once again. Some people have managed to make it reality. In China, a new program called "cyber Palace Museum” has been carried out since three years ago. The aim of this program is to recreate the Forbidden City in digital world and thus meliorate the preservation of the historical treasure in the museum. So far, although it is not completed, the virtual exhibition in the program has been renowned. Virtual exhibition is noted because of its small scale, simple exposure and flexible format. What is more, the exhibition can now display those masterpieces which can not find their place in limited real-world palace or can not survive in the circumstances of galleries. The crossover of modernization and tradition mentioned above breaks the border of original territories and leads to unimagined prize ultimately.

In sum, tradition and modernization are not completely incompatible, even though there exists conflict which can be abated. And their cooperation, if proper, usually results in peerless fruition. We do not have to and can not choose between them. Guarding the tradition only can not bring us progress of society. Embracing modernization only, on the other hand, is the denial of our past and the accumulation of our predecessors, eventually renders us rootless. What we need and should do it to strike a balance between them and to make this world a better place for offspring.
