The speaker claims that if the goal we are working for is worthy and meaningful, then it is justifiable to take whatever means to attain it. In my point of view the claim is way too extreme. It is true that we are required to make efforts to achieve success. However, it is imprudent to neglect the impacts on others, society, as well as on ourselves which our activities may leave. In my opinion, taking all-sided consideration also plays a vital role on our way to success.

To begin with, I have to concede that it is always necessary to make efforts if we want to achieve success. We are all familiar with the old saying: "No pains, no gains". Those who wish to realize their dreams and become successful must wake up to the fact that the most straightforward way leading to success is diligence and hard working. And people who fail all the time are often those who sit around all day long and wait for windfalls. Besides, one needs to realize that goals that do not require much sweat and effort are usually not meaningful or worthy. The story of the great inventor Edison is a good example to show the importance of effort. He had tried thousands of methods to make an electric bulb, and finally it was his diligence and persistence which led to the world's first electric bulb. Today we are familiar with many successful persons both at present and in history such as Bill Gates and Abraham Lincoln, all of whom are positive and hard-working. Behind every Nobel Prize there is an inquiring heart and a diligent spirit, and behind every Olympic gold medal there are tears, sweat and even blood. In one word, everyone should do his best for his goals unless he prepares to give up.

However, although it is true that one needs to try his best to attain his goals, it is also as necessary to take all-sided consideration before we get down to business. People often say: “All roads lead to Rome”, and there may be more than one method we could think out by which we may achieve success. It is necessary to make comparisons in these plans and choose the best or at least justifiable one from them. It is unwise to achieve some temporary goals at the cost of great financial loss, or more seriously, losing trust from our friends and companions. We need to assess the value of our goals before we begin to work for them. Perhaps they are meaningful and worthy goals, but may not be that worthy. A great loss caused by our activities which is beyond retrieve may lower the value of our goals or make them meaningless. And it is necessary to obey the rules of our society such as laws and morality. Companies that wish to achieve success in market must be honest to their consumers and continue to improve their services and products. Those companies that acquire financial interest by cheating and adulterating their products will lose their trust from consumers which will probably result in bankruptcy. And we often learn from news that some officials who tired to make money by corruption were sent to prison.

To sum up, I agree with the speaker that it is necessary to attain our goals by making efforts. And it is as important to take careful considerations to assure that our efforts are efficient and justifiable.
