TOPIC: ISSUE4 - "No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
WORDS: 497 TIME: 01:14:01 DATE: 2007-8-11 23:56:45
In an era of such a modern society full of information explosion, varities of study all have a rapid development under strong scientific driving force. And people today are more and more concerned about researches. So the speaker claims that no field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to it. In my view, I agree that there is a close relationship among different subjects. But, it does not mean without such connection, all subjects cannot make a great progress.
First of all, it is well-konwn that different studies always connect with each other closely in some aspects. And it is reasonable to accept that one subject would arrive greater achievement with the help of other subjects. As the famous physicist, M.Planck, who the quantum theory once said, "Science is a whole part inside, which is divided into several fields for the limitation of human-being. In fact, there is a rope from physics to chemistry, from biology and anthropology to social science, which cannot be interrupt in any part." This assertion is truely demonstrated by history. In 1953, DNA double helix structure is discovered through a joint effort made by Chemist L.C.Boring, Biologist J.D.Watson and some physicists. The chief reason to such a discovery is abundant knowledge these scientists have. In a not dissimilar way, we can realize that different studies affect on each other and fifter to each other to develop many fields in front of science and make significant advancements.
However, I concede that konwledge and experience in other fields are not the only determined factor to the develpoment of one field. In fact, the funfamental cause whether science will develop rapidly is one would be able to or be good at to raise up scientific questions. The great mathematician Hilbert point out that, as long as one branch of konwledge can raise up numberous questions, it is still full of energy. Otherwise, no problems would portended a dewise or a stop of it. At hte same time, he came up with 23 questions in maths in 1900, which put a strong force in the development of maths in twentith century. As a matter of fact, as the logical beginning piont of science, oppugning questions is also a important progress of researching.
In modern society, the advantages of colligate some subjects together are becoming more and more obvious, especially for interdisciplinary. It has centralize natrual science, social science, literae humaniores and many important branch of subjects. So it is also much beneficial to solve momentous social and scientific problems people facing effectively. Moreover, as far as a country is cncerned, making a policy or a development strategy need all-around knowledges, while interdisciplinary can provide scientific evidences. Thus, a comprehensive konwledge and experience do benefical to countries and whole society.
In sum, I point out that the development of society need to intergate different fields togther. Though it is not the only factor reflected on, it must be a significant one. |
