Issue7 "The video camera provides such an accurate andconvincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important formof documentation than written records."

Video cameras, initially developed by the television industry, now widely invade most aspects in our life as well. We use them to record theromantic weddings, interesting tourisms, graduate ceremonies and so on. Along with its popularity, some people may say that its importance outweighs the oneof written records. However, this is far from the truth, though important as it is, in some cases, it could never surpass the written documentation.

Doubtlessly, the video camera has unique advantage inrecording momentary and moving objects. Firstly, it can offer us vivid images as well as sounds which help us to reach the live situation of things happened. Take concert of Linkin Park, a famous band in the United States, for example, video records can show us the exciting atmosphere on the spot. We can see the band fierily performing, audience dancing along with the music, and fans crazily screaming. We even move our body following the music. Compared with video records, written documentations fail to provide us with such a live world. When we read such records, it is hard to imagine specifically. So, no one would choose to read books to get familiar with the concert, even if the booksdescript the specific situation. Moreover, the video camera enables us to maintain an objective perspective to see the things happened. It can reflectthe original face of things. This is especially true in the legal field. Videosurveillance camera is greatly accepted as objective witnesses in that it leadus to the locale of a crime without any prejudice or perjury, thus contributes to the just judgment of the law. While, obviously, written records can do littleto ensure such objective records. We all know that people who make records have different opinions, and these opinions would greatly affect the objectivity of the records. So, video records are more likely to keep an impersonal standpoint.

Nonetheless, video records are not always superior to written records. In certain other cases, written records may be more appropriate.Firstly, though the video camera can give us a vivid record of our life, but when we try to know things like thought, idea, and spirit and so on, it can seldom perform any function.
To illustrate this, we can see no further than the documentation of an economic policy of decreasing the interests. Video records indeed show us the several aspects of economy, including that more people go to the bank to draw deposit and then go shopping, companies enlarge their factories and so on. But we can hardly get the conclusion that whether the policy iseffective or not, since these records are scattered and superficial. To obtaina clear comprehension, the best way is turn to written records, which would offer us the figure of the loan provided to companies, the index of consumption, the point of economy growth, consequently helping us achieve the right judgment.Secondly, video records are limited when we document things of a long period.Take the record of the development in our country in the last 20 years for example. It a Mission Impossible for video camera to document development ofevery field and every aspect. While, written documentation are competent for this “Mission”.It can record things even far longer than 20 years. Actually some historicbooks, which record things in the past, are of hundreds of years. Finally, compared with written records, certainly video records are more costly. For example, if we want to record our everyday life, it must cost huge amounts of money to buy disks. But if we choose to write down, perhaps several notebooks are totally enough. Hence, sometimes written record has own advantages.

In sum, video records and written records each has hisstrong point, hence, we should decide to adopt them case by case.

Issue7 "The video camera provides such an accurate andconvincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important formof documentation than written records."

Video cameras, initially developed by the television industry, now widely invade most aspects in our life as well. We use them to record the(no "the") romantic weddings, interesting tourisms, graduate ceremonies and so on. Along with its popularity, some people may say that its importance outweighs the oneof written records. Take concert of Linkin Park, a famous band in the United States, for example, video records can show us the exciting atmosphere on the spot. (用linkin park来做document的例子....额...组长的思维比我开阔多了...)Compared with video records, written documentations fail to provide us with such a live(lively) world. When we read such records, it is hard to imagine specifically. So, no one would choose to read books to get familiar with the concert, even if the books descript the specific situation. (这句有点干瘪)Moreover, the video camera enables us to maintain an objective perspective to see the things happened. It can reflect the original face of things. This is especially true in the legal field. Video surveillance camera is greatly accepted as objective witnesses in that it lead us to the locale of a crime without any prejudice or perjury, thus contributes to the just judgment of the law.
