2000 refused During the whole process, I kept smiles and eye contacts with the Visa Officer (VO). Me: Good morning, Sir. VO: Put your left finger on the finger print machine and then your right finger. (He said that with a smile.) Me: Ok. VO: So, you are going to study Financial Mathematics? (He looks at me and asks it with a smile.) Me: Yes. (I look at him and smile too.) VO: And your study expense is 50000 dollars? Me: Yes, and there is a clarification letter from my department. (This time, VO has totally understood my education costs and length of time. 5**** is the exact amount of my prepared fund for the first term stated on I-20.) VO: What’s your family’s income? Me: Well, I have an asset list here. You can see my family’s income on the list. (I send the list into the window. VO spent little time on reading it.) VO: No, I don’t need it. You tell me. Me: OK. My family’s total income is over 8 thousand dollars. VO: No, don’t exchange the amount into dollars. You just tell me the amount in RMB. What’s your father’s income? Me: My father’s income is about RMB 10 thousand. VO: Your mother? Me: My mother has two jobs, so she has two positions and two pieces of income. One is at ***. Her salary at *** is about 100,000 RMB. And she has another income of RMB 20 thousand at ***. (Last time, I missed the chance to tell VO about my family’s income completely. Therefore, I want to grasp this chance to make a clear statement.) VO: How does your mother have the RMB 20 thousand? Me: She works at *** as the Director of ***. VO: Is it a part time job? Me: No. In fact, it is a full-time job. VO: What about the job at ***? Is it part-time or full-time? Me: In fact, both are full-time. (I am not sure about which one should be taken as full-time or part-time. I just know for sure that *** is my mother’s forever job, while *** is the one on which she has spent almost all of her work time.) VO: How can your mother do that? Me: Because my mother’s first company has a lot of changes in administrative system. So, my mother doesn’t need to deal with daily business or to stay at her office from morning to afternoon, but she can keep her position and her salary. So, my mother accepted the job offer from another company. VO: Do you mean your mother retired? Me: No. (The truth is that my mother has the privilege to keep her position and salary even though she does nothing at ***, just because she holds a high administrative position at the age of over 50 years. I know, this policy is hard to understand, but this is the fact at ***.) VO: She needs to do nothing at ***? Me: No. She just needn’t do daily business, but she will participate in the most important things. VO: You didn’t mention it last time. Me: Yes, I am sorry perhaps I didn’t state it clearly to the visa officer. VO: It seems to be no sense. Why didn’t you say it last time? Me: I am sorry not to state it clearly to the visa officer. He asked me my father’s company, my mother’s company, and my company, and then I answered. Maybe I didn’t say that clearly or perhaps the visa officer didn’t give me the chance. I am sorry. (I know the difference between my family’s real income and the records by the 1st interviewer may lead to the 2nd interviewer’s distrust, but I have to tell him the truth completely.) VO: What will do when you finish your study? Me: I plan to come back to my current company ***. I will get a position as a Financial Analyst. And my expected salary will be 300,000 to 500,000 RMB per year. So I can cover all the expense within 1 or 2 years. (At the first time, VO doesn’t believe I can get a job at leading financial firms such as GS or CICC, so I feel that it may be an applicable career plan to return to my current company with a desired promotion and a salary increase.) VO: (He makes no sound and begins to type.) Me: Here’s an invitation letter from my company. Do you want to see it? VO: No. (He keeps on typing at his computer.) Me: House certificates? VO: No. (He keeps on typing at his computer.) Me: (I keep silent and wait for him to finish his typing.) VO: (He sends my I-20 form out of the window and then begins to talk to me with a smile.) I am sorry that I cannot give you the visa this time. Me: Could you tell me the reason? (At this time, he has sealed my passport, so I have been formally refused.) VO: Even though that your mother has that income of RMB 20 thousand, I don’t believe you will come back. Me: I can show you the work certificate. (I think it may be helpful for VO to understand my mother’s income.) VO: No. (He sends out my passport. The interview is over.) |
