ISSUE 185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

Everyday we can hear or see the news about scandals from TV, radio or Internet, as I feel, different scandals gives me different feelings. So, in my opinion, whether the scandal is useful is case-by-case, not as speaker's assertion that all scandals are useful.

Admittedly, scandals which belong to negtive news have the same function with it, that is disclose the truth of the matter and invite our attention to recongize the essence of problem, especially when it comes to the political, bissness, financial and so on. The typical financial scandal is the so-called "financial statement scandal" involving Enron, the 7th biggest company in the U.S., not only represented an enormous loss to its investors, but also resulted in the disintegration of Arthur Andersen, one of the world's top 5 accounting firms. The scandal had a serious impact on the securities market as well as the accounting system, and for a while the market was inundated with books and articles on how to analyze financial statements, uncover financial statement frauds, or see through accounting tricks. Through out this case people realizes that establishing a integrated supervision on accountting system is important.

Another example that illustrates significant role that the scandals play in our society is slave labor scandal in Shanxi, China which exposures a felonious criminal who slaved the labors more than 18 hours working without any payment and freedom. When the scandal disclosed in sina website, within a few hours more than 45,000 comments were made in sina news comment sections. The comments were mixed with shock, angry and shame, and also raised many critial thinkings about it. The scandal foucus our attention on various problems that on speaker or reformer can ever could.

On the other hand, some so-called "public figuer scandal" usually mislead mass attention. Too often this kind of scandals is related to individual private life in which we should not intervene. The speaker may argue that since they are the celebrities, they should be the models in front of the public. I concede in a sense this statement is correct. After all, they stand for the image of our society and they should be perfect in any aspects. However, their private life are not on our business, instead, their performance in professional fields are our focus. To a president we should notice his political achievements rather than his family problems; To a artist, we should appreciate his works but not mention whether he has a bastard or not. Unfortunately, because of the scandal's misleading, many elites cannot endure the stress from mass blame fading out from their glorious stage. Hence, in a sense, the scandal makes a negative impact on our society.

In sum, I cannot agree with the speaker's assertion that all scandals are useful. Although scandals serve to disclose the seamy side of the society that any speaker or reformer can ever could, it is must be used in right way and place or it will lead to unfairly judgement.

先谈下总体感觉,肯定不上一篇好的多,要是我是考官这样的文章给4.5决不过分
例子举的非常多,不过个人感觉太多例子也不好,说理部分就少了,毕竟太耗篇幅.
最后就是一点语法错,感觉一小部分连贯性有问题(主要是2段)
