Is competition for high grades the devil to harm the quality of learning at all levels of education?It has become the heated controversial issue all over the world.As far as I am concerned, I take it as a complex argument that deserves more consideration. The undue competition for grades does play a role in undermining the quality of learning ,nonetheless,in my belief, if the principles and extent can be under fine control ,it may be a pushing force to progress the level of education.
Admittedly,undue demanding for high grades confines the creativity and imagination of students.They are easily misled that the only goal of learning is just to prepare for the exams and gain a high marks,which deviates from the true meaning and ingenuous sense of education.By this way,the talents gradutated from college are those who owns nothing other than high grades.As is known to all, what the society requires is not a person to get full marks on all kinds of examinations ,but one who can tackle a real tricky problem confronted by the whole human race.
Worse still,the overstatement of the grades can also bring about its severe detrimental behaviors among the students.The more and more appealing cheating phenomenon at campus is the best justification of it .As the nonscientific system becomes the convention,students are mostly assessed and evaluated by their grades,therefore,students cares nothing more than the tests held by the school.As a result,it is no wonder that all kinds of lengths to gain high grades might have their roles in the campus life.With deep insight into the cause of cheating phenomenon, the school itself cannot escape the responsibility for the deception when it underscoring the high grades.(本句与论点无关)
Every coin has two sides,when we criticize the nonscientific competition for high grades,at the same time,we should not deny that grading in education serves as a method and critiria for assessement of how students learn from the school education and in return,to testify if the education type and mode is appropriate or not.Students’ achievements in major study can be better evaluated through the grading method.Moreover,it contributes a lot when considering the effect of educational system on the whole.
My contention involves that certain prerequisitives be taken in to account.For example, the extent and the way how to execute the grading principles ,to a great extent, have an impact on the efficiency and availability of the grading system at campus.The modifaction of the recent grading rules according to actual situation is advocated ,which emboys many aspects to consider.The factors include maitaining objective and justified grading,how to carry out the grading with regard to varied phase of the education receivers,and the vicious aftermath of the competition for high grading and the like.
In sum,we must bear in mind that too much emphasis on the grades leads to unexpected and even harmful competition,which is apt to become the constraint for the cultivation of creative ability,one that constitutes the ultimate aim of education.On the other hand,it is as well necessary for us not to go the extrems.The benign competition in learning among the learners at school with a hope to gain an ideal grade can sometimes be a beneficial tool for the educational appraisal and testification,furthermore,to promote the active learning of students.
