The statement above alleges that the greatness of individuals can be decided only by later generations, rather than their contemporaries. In my observation, whether the achievement and success of individuals can be recognized in their contemporary period is the main reason to obtain the answer(你没有提出问题,谈何回答问题?然后我通读了一下第一段,感觉这里用whether也不是很合适。你的思路是想先提出原文的观点,你给予否定,最后提出你的观点。我这样写:In my observation, the achievement and success of individuals sometimes can be recognized in their contemporary period.), and the allegation is an unfair generalization. The answer to the question that “Is who to decide the greatness of individuals(who can decide the greatness of individuals)?” depends on the concrete circumstances, either of society or individuals(认为这句修饰circumstances不妥,去掉比较好), and therefore varies from case to case.
To begin with, let’s have a look around(let's look around/let's have a look about) the rapid development of our current society.(最好在第一段给出topic sentence) Our day-to-day convenience is attributed to(去掉is,直接attibute to) most of our today’s advance(advanced) techniques and profound strategies. More often than not, a myriad of great persons, with their intelligence and hard-working, lead to the rapid development of our society. Such rapidness make results of individuals’ action emerge immediately upon performance, which accompanies the evaluation and confirmation of contemporary people.(社会的快速发展使人们的成功能迅速的被认可,我觉得好像不能这样推。我认为社会的快速发展导致名人的泡沫效应,过后名人就被忘记了,例如超女。人们的成功被同时代的认可可能与他们的成绩能马上给社会带来效益,不需要时间的检验,你的例子也能说明这一点) An aptly illustration involves in the sports realm.(这句真棒!) My most admirable and respectable person Peter V. Ueberroth, who lifts the Olympic Game from a big depression to a new(ly) and fully different period, makes great contribution to the Olympic Game and poses a positive effect on the whole world’s economy. This achievement and contribution of him was recognized in 1984 and was rewarded Olympic Order (Gold) by the International Olympic Committee. Without his acute and keen perspective, that is, injecting new vigor and economical ideas, the Olympic Game is very likely to be in an inextensible state and not so prosperous as today. Such figures like him, bring about great wealth and great benefits to contemporary people, can gain great evaluation and doom not to leave evaluation to later generation.(例子举的恰如其分,诠释的我无话可说!:)
However, in retrospect, there are many cases that the greatness of great figures was not recognized and even denied by their contemporaries. As we know, scientific research is a long-term endeavor and any theory must withstand rigorous scientific scrutiny. Therefore, it is quite possible that contemporary people may not identify them, which need a necessary process to test their greatness. Take the string theory for example, the theory reconcile the quantum theory and wave theory mathematically. However, whether the theory can provide the unifying laws for all matter in the universe has to be tested empirically. Another example whose greatness was not accepted in their times is Copernicus(我也想到这个例子,呵呵). So many people at that time regard Copernicus’s theory as just an imagination, going against their belief. It is eventually later people that (people 和that换个位置:that later people)recognize his greatness and give his deserved confirmation. In other words, scientific field is such a complex field that needs so much theoretical and experimental testifies and it makes the testing time not easy to ensure. In such case, contemporaries can not recognize these great scientists, instead more probably people living after them can.
However, still another situation will determine whether the greatness can only be decided by offspring people(去掉people, offspring是个名词). The reason for my claim relies on the environment of the society, whether it is free and open or constrained and conserved. An open society will voluntarily accept the innovation and neo-thoughts, and more than(去掉than, 有than 就是后者和前者的比较,有点肯定后者否定前者的意思), give them certain patronage. The Pope recognized Michelangelo’s artistic greatness; the monarchs of Europe admitted Mozart’s greatness; readers appreciated novels of Mark Twain during his time, and paradigms of such sort occur in most open-minded society. Nevertheless, if a society is too conservative, any newly things will be rejected and the greatness of any talent or worthy person certainly fails to be known. The fact that Voltaire’s rejection of Shakespeare who did not conform to neo-classical principles of unity as barbaric is a striking example.
In sum, not only the emergent time of any achievement, but also the society’s circumstance(“成就涌现的时间”和“社会的环境”在我看来是一个意思,你不妨把前面一条改成成就是否需要时间的检验) determines whether the greatness can be recognized immediately. Given that the achievement does great good to our humans, the greatness can ultimately be identified, either by contemporaries or offspring.
