interview.  Each year I interview a number of young

before the onset of Chunjie; the rest will take place
in February, whenever convenient.

available for an interview in the days before Chuxi.

applicant in my flat.  This is a relaxed conversation
( \* f. A8 `, E# C/ Ffor which there is no 憄reparation?  The interview is
$ a# l- Z" M8 c4 ?0 S6 p! ~* b2 o# Wnot a test. You can bring a few documents if you wish,
though I am more interested in you as a person than as

By the way, do not bring any gifts; I will not accept
them.  Also, I do not ever meet or speak with the

+ H# q% X+ Q. g7 WI live on the campus of the Zhongguo Dizhi Daxue in
. U8 [; Q( b  M9 g- _# ?Haidian.  Our main gate, i.e. the north-central gate,
is opposite the main south gate of the Beijing Yuyan
% o/ O+ m- X# X( C* _. H  nWenhua Daxue (or Yuyan Xueyuan, or Beiyu).  From the
6 g6 F1 \. s6 c0 b0 \north-central gate, proceed about 200 meters south,
till you come to a major crossroads; Dormitory 9 will
be on your right.  At the corner, turn right and
proceed about 300 meters. I live in Building 38, Flat
153.  Building 38 is a new six-floor structure that
you will see on your left, inside an area with a black
- ^0 d- `  q( Ametal fence and its own gateway. The building is
: e2 ~& a( `# d5 h; _painted pale yellow and dark pink.  My telephone
number, in case you have any trouble finding the
place, is 8232-7485.

. Q/ z9 ]3 }$ I3 ^! V; N& qIf you are coming from outside Beijing, the important
thing to know is that the campus is in Haidian Qu, in
) u+ M/ O9 M: b. ^5 Z8 }; Bthe outer northwestern part of Beijing, about a
( A3 G- s( y& rkilometer east of Qinghua University.  To get here,
/ b' }! ~" M3 J, h5 htell your taxi driver to take you to the south gate of
the Yuyan Xueyuan [the Beijing Language Institute].
Mention Wudaokou, the nearby market area.  The south
+ O& ^- [* h4 D( Tgate of the Yuyan Xueyuan and our north gate are both
on Chengfu Lu (cheng2fu3).  You can also get here by
4 G& d8 L/ H" e: h0 Ftaking the new light rail line (qinggui) from Xizhimen
underground station to Wudaokou station and then
3 H9 s5 P. {% K& w/ E1 nwalking east on Chengfu Lu till you come to our
northwest or north-central gate, which will be on your
right.
