Argument 9
“Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors."
提纲
1、 评估进行和成绩提高没有必然关系;
2、 2所大学之间的比较不够完全,没有足够的证据;
3、 学生找不到工作,不仅仅是和成绩的关系。

Should the teaching effectiveness evaluation be blamed for Omega graduates’ not being so successful at getting jobs as those from Alpha University? The arguer recommended Omega University to cancel the student evaluation of professors, which has been executed for about 15 years, by analyzing the relationships as evaluation, grades inflation to disadvantage in job seeking. This conclusion seems reasonable on the surface. However, it will be proved ungrounded after a comprehensive analysis.
First of all, there is no directly correlation between the new procedure, which serves as stimuli of education, and the rising of overall student grades averages. First of all, it could not be the truth to say professor assign higher grades in their classes. Operating the student evaluation procedure is attributed to encourage the progress of students and teachers. And as students, when they evaluate they would not always put the higher grades in the first place. The professor’s ideas, activities and teaching style may be their criteria too. Furthermore, there is no evidence to support the idea that the abilities of students were lower than before and the relationship between the raise of grades and the decrease of ability of students.
By the comparison between Omega University and the nearby Alpha University, the arguer is strongly against the evaluation of teaching effectiveness because graduates from the latter seem to have an advantage in seeking good jobs. The reason why the omega students have not performed as excellently as the student of near alpha university includes more possibilities. Perhaps the graduate of the universities have different sort of work, maybe omega graduates take a career that need more time to practice and cannot shine at once as a neophyte while the alpha graduate is in need of the society that made them busy with new industry where youth dominates such as IT industry. It could also be the reason that Alpha University has more graduates majored in the 'hot' subjective, therefore they could easier to get a job due to the need of these kind of experts are enormously large. Or perhaps the nearby Alpha University excelled the omega university in many aspects, it may have a longer history, it may be a eminent university which the government offer more funds. What’s more, it doesn’t mention that whether Alpha adapted similar evaluation system or not. It’s unfair to blame the evaluation system and come to the conclusion that Alpha is better than Omega.
Furthermore, in the inviting applicants for a job, one graduate’s ability and potential are not just judged by the grade that is only one part. Personal character, leadership, intercommunication, fellowship spirit, etc., as well as the job situation of the major, reflect a whole employer. So it is not fair to blame the evaluation system alone.
In conclusion, the evidence advanced is incomplete or even incapable. It needs some more convincing information concerning on the attitudes from the employers and the estimate of the evaluation procedure. Omega University should pay more attention to the instructional level, or curriculum setting to adapt the employers’ request of a particular job.
