According to the speaker, the video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records because the video camera can provide more accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. I concede that the video camera can lend us a hand to record our lives more vividly and accurately. However, a better form of documentation is the one with more systematic, comprehensive and in-depth information, which can be easily provided by written records rather than video camera.

To begin with, the written records are more appropriate to document general, logical and abstract events. For example, the legal provisions, which conclude complex agreements on details of our daily life, are better to exist in the form of written documentation. Because the video is useless when it comes to record people's inner movements, such as intentions, impressions or reflections of certain events. In addition, it is impossible for the video to record such basic law principle with abstract meaning as "everyone is equal before the law" since we can not explain the wide implications for this sentence clearly unless we read the words and imagine by ourselves.

Moreover, the camera video is more adept at recording the facts, while it is the experience we gain from the facts rather than the facts themselves that promote the social progress of human beings. From this point of view, the written records are more suitable to provide regular and summary information derived from the objective facts to promote the social development. A classic example of this occurred with the scientists, like Newton, who discovered the law of universal gravitation. Just imagine, how can we make good use of this significant discovery by watching a video showing an apple dropping from a tree to the ground? It is the concise words, characters, and numbers that build a solid foundation for the physical research as well as our practical construction.  

Admittedly, the videos are advantageous to certain purposes of recording entertainment and personal short experiences. For example, a video of a concert will provide people more enjoyment than a lot of words that describe how wonderful the concert is, because the gorgeous screen is more attractive than the written words at this time. Another example happens in many families, people would like to take a video of their child's growing process as memorial. It is better than the written words for people can see their babies' noses, eyes, and mouths so vividly and accurately that no one would deny the video is a better form of documentation.

To sum up, the speaker's conclusion overstates the importance of video records.  The video indeed plays a important role in recording some events which require specific reproduction in the details of colors, pictures and forms. However, more events, which are more general, logical, regular and abstract therefore being of influential and prominent significances to our daily life are appropriate to be recorded in written form of documentation.
