Could the individual interests and needs improve the efficiency of education of each student? Obviously, needs and interests spur one's curiosity to study. Yet just depending on the individual interests, it may not achieve the goal of education.
In the one hand, the courses that meet the individual needs and interests bring enthusiasm of learning; even increase the efficiency to finish the work in some extent. Thomas Carlyle, British historian and essayist, once said (and I paraphrase):" Love is ever the beginning of knowledge as fire is of light." This illuminates the point that the favour of special region would lead you to explore more information and knowledge in order to meet your needs. At the threshold, the motive of studying surely comes from interests. So keeping on the passion to study, each student should learn more knowledge efficiently.
Simply not, without interests, student would find that the knowledge lose its own charming. Just as flowers have no their aroma, aquarelles have no vivid colours. It is an indispensable part in the process of search the truth, and teachers can not ignore the influence of the individual interests and wants.
In the other hand, only learning the courses that students are interested in, it can not represent an excellence grade that we want. It sometimes requires a lot of terms to study effectively. "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." said Thomas A. Edison (and I paraphrase). It is true that the interests possibly enlighten you on the subjects. However, success demands not only transitory inspiration but also industry. Interest is just a key to open the door of knowledge, and there is so much information we would acquire. While interests and needs are necessary for students, insistence is equally important.
Finally, it is impossible for schools to assign the courses which meet each individual needs and interests. Each student may focus the attention on various things. If then, Schools should supply compulsory lessons and elective courses for students. Thus, compulsory lessons could provide the overall students with integrated basic knowledge. On the basis of them, each student according to his or her interest chooses elective courses, and develops the individual advantages sufficiently.
In conclusion, the advisable measure of contemporary education is that the compulsory courses associate with elective lessons. This method considers the individual needs and interests, and all of students also learn the general knowledge what they must master. (403个字)
