I fundamentally agree with the speaker that the huge amounts of ordinary people are the essential motions that promote the development of the history and human society. And they deserve to get more attention. However, it is unnecessary to overstate the importance of great figures who played a crucial role in changing the history by their excellent individual abilities.

Admittedly, the great figures were usually the advocators and leaders of many significant events. Most of them had influenced generations of people and should be memorized. It is hard to image what the world would be like without the prominent contributions of them. The Americans might still be dominated by the colonists if Washington did not lead them fought for their freedom. People might still not be aware of lacking civil rights if Martin Luther King did not raise the spirits that had been asleep for quite a long time. Moreover, anyone who wants to realize his or her dream, would be inspired by the moving events that made by the great figures.  After all, the power of examples is endless and far beyond what we can imagine.

However, it was the majority, not the famous few, dominated the trends of history and became the basic source of social development. Because it was the support of ordinary people that provided the great figures with solid power. All the dreams could not come true without the accumulation of little effort of ordinary people. An excellent general has to rely on thousands of brave soldiers to win a war, even though he is strategist.  An effective economic system could not be well established unless all the common workers put every effort to their jobs, even if the plan is proposed by a talent politician. In short, common people are the source of development.

Moreover, even the great figures could possibly make mistakes; they could not change the historical trends because the ordinary people were more powerful. After all, in our real lives, not only in the past, but also in our contemporary life, most of the people are common and ordinary. The famous individuals are worth respecting, while it is unreal for everyone to dream to be a hero. Actually, an edifice is based on millions of bricks, which are unknown to the public. We should place more emphasis on the ordinary people, because showing respect to them means recognize ourselves as well. By doing so, we would gain more comfort both mentally and physically. It is truly necessary to increase the happiness of the majority to motivate their work and study.

In a word, we need to strike a balance between great figures and ordinary people. One one hand, we should learn from the great figures to inspire ourselves for more progress. One the other hand, more ordinary people, who are the foundation of our society, should be placed more emphasis, many of us might be parts of them.
