Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."
In this argument, the arguer concludes that in order to raise the property values in Deerhaven Acres the homeowners there should adopt their own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting just as what these homeowners in nearby Brookville has done. However, this argument has several logical flaws as follows.
In the first place, there is no solid evidence which shows that the raised average property values in Brookville is due to the newly adopted restrictions on landscaping and housepainting there. It is of great possibility that the government of Brookville has took effective measures to control the environmental pollution there which make Brookville a pleasant place to live. Thus more and more people from other communities choose to live in Brookville which makes the average property values tripled there. In the second place, granted that the raised property values in Brookville can be attributed to the adopt of set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting, however, it can not be guaranteed that the set of restrictions will work in raising the property values in Deerhaven Acres. There may be severe environmental pollution in Deerhaven Acres due to the factories there. And there may also be poor traffic conditions in Deerhaven Acres caused by traffic jams due its lack of effective managements. The crime rate could be high then leads to a poor social order situations. If the Deerhaven Acres community only adopts a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting without solving these possible problems talked above, the property values there may not have a significant rise because no one is willing to choose to live in a place with poor living conditions. So arguer should find out whether there is other factors that have limit the property values in Deerhaven Acres.
In the third place, the restrictions on landscaping and housepainting may not necessarily be the sole effective measure to help raise property value in Deerhaven Acres. The government of Deerhaven Acres could choose to improve its social welfare or medical care system to attract more people to live in Deerhaven Acres which will also help raise the property value there.
