Can people really learn as much knowledge by watching television as they get by reading books? When take into consideration(considering) the fact that books contain much knowledge that is useful to develop your personality of an individual (加一个and好些吧)which cannot be found by means of watching television, I will have to say no. Admittedly, nowadays more and more people prefer watching television to reading books to spend(改为in简洁些吧 ) their leisure time. Life-long education does not answer any question, it provokes questions, and people spend more time to be entertained than educated(这一句话这么似乎不妥??). According to the result of a survey conducted by the American parent-teachers Organization, fifty percent of the students on average American middle schools spend nearly all their time after school watching films or other entertaining programs on television and twenty percent spend half of the time watching these programs instead of the teaching programs. It is true that as the technology develops, the television has become more and more popular with the public,(;)there are varieties of educational programs show on television in the United States everyday, but we have accept the fact that when you turn on the television on the purpose of learning, the entertaining channels will attract more attention of you gradually. So the efficiency of learning is not as high as you expected.(这一段你是想说,尽管电视上有知识,但是学习效率不高) In addition, books contain more knowledge that enables one to function well in society. The famous Russian writer Gorky has(had) once said, books are the stepping stones to human progress. One can find books involved in all aspects of life in a book store such as science and arts. For example, he can find more detail information about Vinci's famous drawing--Mona Lisa in the book which deals with the major works of art of Europe in a library than a television program telling the stories of the famous artists.(这一段你的TS想说,books 比television包含更多知识,但是从你的论证来看,只能说明书本有知识,并没有于电视相比) Furthermore, books are condensing of a nation's culture. (books are considered as the symbol of a nation’s culture 更好吧)In many cases it (them)replace our empty mind with an open one at the spiritual level.(是想说填充了我们的灵魂,是我们心灵的慰藉吧:color our blank mind and appease the impatient spirit ) Human society has developed through several periods in history, (;)several thousand years ago, when was no television,(这是句子么,at the time there was no television) the thoughts of the philosophers were passed on from generation to generation through books. These books are impetus to the development of humanity which can be replaced by nothing else. (我觉得着重强调一下,books assimilate the wisdom and experience from our ancestors and grandsire )It is difficult for any of us in moments of intense reading experience to resist the suggestion that it is the gateway to a different realm of existence. It is these books that fulfill our spiritual life and makes the individual existence from a trickle to a stream and the stream has now become a torrent. Take bible as an example, every weekend people go to the churches to pray and every time they are faced with great difficulties of life they would turn to the bible to find some kind of beauty and serenity deep in their soul which in turn gives them the courage and determination to make the difficulties through. (我觉得你说是精神的泉源,我们总能找到解决问题的办法好些 Taking bible as an example, people go to the churches to pray and to appease the disturbed hearts, or even to draw power and courage from god to take over the difficulties which puzzle them )It is these books which are like mariners that they chart their course with. In sum, I would like to conclude that although the television plays an important role in our society, when we talk about learning, it is the books that really make sense.

首先说个问题,字数太少!至少500words
题目:ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books." 字数:344 用时:00:40:00 日期:2008-1-21 20:52:54 Television, one of symbols of modern civilization, has become an(a) strong competition(competitor) of (with) books. Some people think they can learn as much by television as by books so that books are not as important as they once were.(你的观点呢?第一段要由你自己的观点) It is true that nowadays television plays an important role in learning and educating, as well as entertaining. Once I heard a professor in Peking University saying, "Only idiots see television and television only makes idiots more stupid." By saying these words, he insisted (that)people can benefit little, if any, from television. While in my point of view, his opinion seems a little radical. We can learn cooking and dancing from teaching programs on television, we can know what happened in anther(another) country far away immediately. Television has become one of measures(tools or implements )(with which) we know about the world, other people, and even ourselves. Although I admit the educational function of television, I cannot agree that we can learn as much by television as reading. Firstly, it is obvious that television is good at recording an event vividly while ideas, thoughts and scientific theories are described much better by books than by television.(为什么这么说??例子,证明) That is (the reason)why books are the main measures taken by school to teach and students are required to read (varied)kinds of books rather than television. Secondly, most of education programs are adopted from books. Thus, whether in quality or in quantity, the adopted programs is hard to compare with books which have a history of thousands of years and contains all fields of living, studying and researching.(有问题,你是想说什么??论证不充分 Secondly, most education programs on television are adopted from books with little advance, even changing the minds or the style of writing. And because of the limit of technology, the education programs only focus on limited fields. For instance, the Discovery only reports and records the interesting animals and the beautiful views instead of any cases of the animal and the plant. By contrast to the Programs, the books contain all information about the known animals and plants. ) In this sense, it is hard for television to be abreast with books in teaching us knowledge. With the popularity of television, the importance of reading books seems decrease. (why证据)But in my opinion, this tendency may exist for ordinary people while it is not the case for researchers, specialists and scientists. Since for most common people, books provide them with knowledge and entertainment which can also be partly supplied by television. For example, in the past, the family often gathered together to read books after supper while nowadays the relaxation period at night is occupied by watching television. However, for scientists and specialists, the most important foundations and recourses of their research are academic books while these books are hard to be adopted into television. Thus, reading books for researching is as important as it once was.(你这样说好了:Can you imagine the commentator analyzes the General Relative to with, when he or she cannot understand well) Although people are spending more and more time in watching television which focuses mostly on popular culture, it is important to keep the good habit of reading books especially those classical books which have been testified by streams of time. 总体觉得这是不是你第一次写哟!感觉论证无力,思维混乱!特别是该举例没举例,就显得说不明白,且字数少罗!
