37"In most societies, competition generally has more of a negative than a positive effect."

      The speaker maintains that competitions, which exist everywhere in our life, have more negative functions than positive aspects to our society .In my opinion the speaker unfairly generalizes the effect of competition in our life. Although I agree with the statement of the speaker that competitions are harmful to people in some aspects. However, the speaker overlooks the positive aspects which the competitions bring to us and play important parts in the development of our society.

      Firstly, the improvement and development of our society and our humans depend on the competition according to history. Competition is natural existent principle and our human become the master of the society because our human has won in the competitions with other animals and nature. Nowadays the competitions are also very important and our society is replete with competitions. The competitions among different nations make all nations become strong because no one wants to be the weakest and eliminate at all. The competitions in different companies make the companies which attend into the competitions offer better projects, more services and lower price. The competitions in school and in the career make people improve their ability and technology to improve work efficiency, and more suitable to the society and make more attribution to our society. Because of these competitions, the society become better and better. According to these examples, we can get an impression that the competitions really make positive function in our life in some aspects.

     Competitions also spur innovations and inventions to our life, and bring new technology and new products. Every competitor wants to be winner in the competition, which make they spent more time to study new technology and do research on more efficient methods. For instance, the competitions in the realm of communication make more new technologies to improve the communication quality, increase communication efficiency, and make the mobile smaller to easy to portable. The communications with different nations and different environments become easier and easier. Consider another example. The competitions in space project in different nations develop the air technology.

     On the other hand, we could not ignore the negative effect of wrong competitive aspects and attitudes, such as dishonesty dealing, purloining commercial secrets, and so on. These are unfair competitions, and they are not the essence of competitions, and they disobey the principles of competitions. We should make fair principles to avoid illegal behavior.

      When all the facts are examined, we may safely come to the conclusion that competition is important in our life, and play positive part in out society, and we could make fair rules to avoid the negative effect of competition.
