TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."

From the conclusion above ,we can find two separated aspects of the speaker’s opinion. They are the efficiency of knowing the people by their appearance and their acts. I only approve the latter one and disagree with the former one. For the skin-deep appearance can easily change while the behaviors of a certain person are more representative.  

It is the truth that  the attitudes and interests will determine how people choose their  cloth and the appearance can always reveal the character of people. But the opposite may not be the reality .Because  many aspects conform the inner thinkings of a person , in which only the attutude towards the appearance can play the most important role in the determination of the looking. Possibly a creative and fashion artist ,who effort all his sprit into his  designing work ,will dress a normal jeans and T-shirt. And from the extrovert look of him/her ,we may not see anything related to art.  In addition ,people's performance can not usually be determined by themselves.  Compared with the youth who may chase for individuality , the elder adults will choose the style of the cloth based on their occupation.  Take the movie stars as an example , most of their public appearances are designed by designers  and the object is to  attract  the audience.Therefore, who can tell the stable and  real attitudes and interests that below the rapid changing cloth? It is the culture ,in which the customs on the cloth only play a slight role, that will be a reflection of the society. Thus , the look ,dress alone can not tell much of people's charactor  individually or socially.

The act and the behavior should be considered seriously. The behavior contains not only the big decision of a nation ,but  the amount of the little determinations in the one's daily life . Different country has various tradition. Although the globalization is a certain trend , people from different area still hold various opinions on the same issue. An apt example is that the education system. The Asia students  always find that their acdamic achivements  usually come from the  the group discussion including a lot of people while the American students want to show their own ability towards a problem so they would like to choose to work alone. This difference tell us the difference between the harmony and the individuality in the two area.

The forgoing reasons demostrate that the act or the behavior can always reveal the people's thinking while the appearance can not be that effective. However , it does not mean that the dress can do nothing to understand a person or a society , because the looks can still tell us some information . By the comprison, we will know the changing trend of a certain area. For example the popularity of swinmming suit showed that the opening in peoples idea and the varity of the style shows the freedom of the mordern people.

In conclusion, the way people dress, look should not be regarded as the determinative factors to judge some a person ,a long contact may be effective .And if we want to understand the character of a society ,we should take more researches on the local culture . Admittedly , a careful and insight observation will help a lot during the research.
