题目:ISSUE 130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
字数:572
The speaker claims that we have not learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. However, the claims that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring a better society are poorly supported by empirical evidence. In my observation, the final judge should depend on a case-by-case analysis of the situations as follows.
The first question is what the precisely definition of “a better society”? And the second ---whether the destiny of society really determined by the socialized children?
At the first of all ,when it comes to a better society, it may be including have the just system of law keep the society stabilization and regularity; people living in happiness; greater tolerance of differing viewpoints and people who are different from ourselves; greater respect for individual rights; and greater cooperation across cultural and national boundaries; and enjoy the advanced technology. Not only society contains the realm of education, but also the economic, politic, business, natural science. In the other realms have different factors to influence them. In the different realms, we need the efforts support by different workers and stuffs. For instance, in the realm of education, teachers assist children to draw as much as possible knowledge and make them grow to be honest and outstanding people. In the politic realm, politicians maintain the unity and stability of our country. Thanks to their hard working that can bring us better society in future. So the better society not the only determined by the so-called socialized children raised by our society.
The second, consider the speaker claims that we have not yet know how to raise children who can help bring a better society, in my observation, unless a child is allowed sufficient opportunities for health interaction with peers ,that child is likely to grow into an effectual, perhaps even an anti-social. However, socialization is only one factor influence the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society. And in my observation it is not the most important one.
Moreover, the most important part of education, once wrote William Ernest Hocking, the distinguished Harvard philosopher,” is the instruction of a man in what has inside him”. How we rise our children grow to a people who can bring about a better society? The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one. Pupils are more like oysters than sausages. The job of teaching is not to stuff them and then seal them up, but to help them open and reveal the riches within. There are pearls in each of us, if only we knew how to cultivate them with ardor and persistence.
In sum, when it comes to whether a child grows up to contribute to a better society, the key determinant is not socialization but rather some other factor—such as seminal children event, parent influence, raw intelligence, or personal conviction. And, while reasonable people with differing political and social viewpoint might disagree about what makes for a “better” society, Thus, in my observation our society is steadily evolving into a mere civilized, respectful and tolerant one. Yet, there much things wait for us to refine and improve all rounds. In the final analysis, in my opinion, we should strike a balance between the methods of educate our children grow up socialized with raise our children who can help bring about a better society. |
