“All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world’s most persistent social problems.”

     Do all nations should help support development of a global university to solving the world’s most persistent social problems? The author claims so. Indeed, human made some improvement in many realms while bring in some social problems also. I partly agree with the recommends that to development global universities in many countries, however, we should take some negative situations into account.
    In the first place, I agree that it is necessary to build a global university in some countries. Nowadays, as the development of science and technology, the progress of human being, many countries generated some social problems at different extent. Some problems may typical of their countries, because of their peculiar basic condition. However, there are some problems which are shared by more than one country. Such as the energy crisis, human rights and so on. A global university may provide a platform for universal students to discus these questions at theoretical and application aspect all together. The students who come from different countries would consider these problems and proposed solutions based on their own countries conditions. And that may help to resolved problems at whole respects. For example, the terrorism has already become a global social problem. Whatever in the development countries or in the underdevelopment countries, the terrorism was existed at different extent, and different circumstances in different countries. Like terrorists hijacked plans in America on “9.11” and the explosion of subway in London in 2001.
     Moreover, development global universities will help to resolve the conflicts and misunderstands among countries during discussion. Many countries who have different opinions on some problems before may consider questions as another point of view in this university. Through communication, cultures of their countries may be understood by others. Therefore, it helps to respect the customs of other countries when they discussion how to solving these problems. For example, recent years, nearly all nations are facing the problem of global warming. They hold meetings to discuss how to control the release of carbon dioxide to resolve the social problem of greenhouse effect. They signed agreement to limit the release of carbon dioxide for each country; however, any countries which thought reduce the limitation will effect to their economy refused to carry out this agreement strictly. Although, many media has criticized this active, these countries still don’t want to change their attitude. If there is a global university, they can try to find a balance point among these countries about how to prescribe the quantity of carbon dioxide in each country through discussions. They will try to find a way of how to use the new energy to replace the oil or how to let development countries to support underdevelopment countries on technology and founds to help them decrease the emission. Anyway, they will found some more peace and effective methods to solving this problem.
    Nevertheless, develop a global university may also bring some other problems. In my opinion, this university may become a political means by interferes of political power of some countries. The countries which provide much more expenditure may request the university to resolve their problems priors or prevent to the resolve of some problems which are relation with their nations. There are some other methods to resolve social problems, such as on the internet. We can use computer to meeting, discussion and communications through the internet. What are world’s most persistent social problems? It maybe involved in a large amount of countries, and has relation with some religion conflicts or perhaps entangled in culture obstacles. Therefore, it will be not easy to resolve these problems just by the global university. It may need the help of some scientists of politics, anthropology and so on.
   In sum, the starting point and goal of the idea of development a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world’s most persistent social problems is basically good. However, it needs to take some reality situations into account. Anyway, social problems are problems all over the world, everyone should give more attention on these questions, to help our world to become better and better.
