The speaker concludes that so much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present. However, I don't quite agree with the speaker. For the present living is quite a rich and colorful world, and we cannot conclude it to new and complex only.

In deed, living in the present is very intricacy and full of innovation. Experienced the industrial revolutions and electric revolution, human beings have stepped into a totally different era from the past. Technology in the present has developed promptly and what works in almost every industry need is only a few person with ability instead of labors in the past. Just selling labor cannot satisfy any employees nowadays. In this sense, we can never look back for a way to hunt jobs in the modern world from the experience before the several human revolutions.

However, this is not the all about the present live. Though the present and past are somewhat diverse, they both lie on the same time line and they hew to the rule that similar outcomes result from the similar causations. So history is like a mirror and reflects our deficiencies and errors correctly, which, helps us to realize what we cannot do to follow the same disastrous road. For example, in those dark periods of Hilter, there came the appalling holocaust aiming at the Jews even the major human beings. The war brought the whole world a great disaster and curbed the development of the world however. Even if our life becomes more and more complex and intricacy in the next time. We cannot forget this history because we should engrave it and prevent it happen the second time.

What's more, without the guidance of the past, our government has nothing to depend on except the barren theory of Mark's or Lenin's. According to materialism, practice is the sole criterion of truth, thus only theory is not enough for our government to rely on to lead our country. In policy, the leaders need the history to tell them how to lead. In economic, the merchant also need to learn experiences and lessons from the predecessors no matter how new the present economics has been. In science, it's more obvious that all the fruit we harvest now is based on the fundamental mansion and data the past researchers had built up. Only can we proceed in the right way in the future by looking back for an understanding of the past.

In sum, despite there are assorted effusions to the contrary of the function of past. I agree that while of somewhat a difference from the present, past can bring us the major clear recognition of the life now.

语言不错，也有自己的思想，不过第一段感觉有些唐突，先写现在变化快，突然提到以前是依靠劳动力，而现在是靠技术，所以过去对现在没有参考价值。但过去也是有技术可言的，古时候还有诗歌，文学，铸造呢。
