Whether all faculty who at the college and university should be required to spend on time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach for improve the quality of instruction? The speaker claims that it would be right and needed, however, in my pat of view, we need strike a balance answer to this problem, and the final judge should depend on a case-by-case analysis as follows.

To begin with, technology developing so fast that some time the knowledge of books in recently published often lags current science and social advancement. In order to keep the same and congruously pace with nowadays development, only we can do is spend faculty’s time to work outside and though their experiences to discover the shortcoming and flaws, otherwise we can not recognize the newly social changes and academic progress. Update our knowledge time and time can keep us from the fate of deserted by our society and coteries.

What's more, practical working experience in the non-academic world relevant to their major will improve faculty's understanding and consideration of the course and field about what they teach. For instance. If economics professor work in a company or firm, then he or she will be clearer about the change of regularity of stork, and can understand the recently support-demanding relative, even master the key relative between the market economy and policies of government. But, if the professors only teach in the college and university, how can he or she get the information about those what we mentioned above?

In addition, working experience in relevant professions puts college faculty in a better position to help their students to adjust from campus to the job market. As we know, the reality is cruel, and the more get learning the truth of completion in the society the better to students, because they will inter the society at last. If students can find mostly information about what society require to them, they will do their best effort to prepare and replete themselves as they can as possible. So, working experience outside indeed play a vital role when the graduate find jobs.

However, as the old saying goes--going too far is as bad as not going far enough. That is mean faculty can not alwasy spend their time on the work outside, after all, they are teachers and the most important thing wait them to do is improve the level of the quality of instruction at the college and university. Redundant outside work would do harm to the instruction. Though they get enough working experience, they have not communicating with their students and coteries.

In sum, in order to improve the quality of the instruction at the college and university level, we indeed need our faculty to spend some time working outside academic world in professions relevant to the course they teach. Yet, too much time spend on the outside work would is not smart and intelligent. Thus, we should consider what is the most suitable time to spend on outside working to a faculty. Finally, we can get the conclusion that faculty work outside in some degree can improve the quality of instruction at the college and university, however we should strike a balance between the concrete time spend on instruction and work outside.
