TOPIC: ARGUMENT65 - The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.

"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

Whether or not the cheese stores makes profits depends on all kinds of factors besides selling. Since the discontinuing stocking many of varieties of imported cheese and concentrating primarily on domestic cheeses are unreliable, which is based on the above analysis, it is unreasonable for the arguer to draw the conclusion that this kind of measure would necessarily improve profits. Even granted that this measure could bring profits to the company, it is still problematic for the arguer to assert that the measure is the best way. Perhaps other measure may be more effective and efficient than the method mentioned in the argument. Thus, it is unfairly for the arguer to make such a unreasonable conclusion.

In sum, the arguer fails to provide concrete statistics about the selling cheese of the whole stores and the preference of cheeses of people in the country.
